Cumberland and Effingham St. Anthony finished with 13 hits, four errors and gave up two walks each. In essence they should have finished in a tie in high school softball action Tuesday in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3.<\/p>\n

But, Cumberland pulled out a 10-7 victory as the two National Trail Conference teams met.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs tallied a run in the first inning. Julia Schultz drew a walk and stole second. She came home on a single by Jackie Vonderheide.<\/p>\n

Cumberland came back to move ahead 4-1 in the top of the second inning. Lauren Schnepper led off the inning with a single. She was sacrificed over by Jude Miller. With two outs, Shelby Kingery singled Schnepper home. Kinley McMechan followed with a single. Two errors produced the three runs that followed.<\/p>\n

The Pirates moved into an 8-3 lead in the top of the fourth as Jude Carr led off with a single. A single by Ava Long got Carr home.<\/p>\n

The lead went to 9-3 in the sixth as Carr drew a walk and stole second. Schnepper singled Carr home.<\/p>\n

Cumberland tacked on a final run in the seventh. Mia Holsapple led off with a double but was thrown out at third base. With two out, McMechan drew a walk and stole second. She came home on a fielder’s choice.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony finally broke loose with a four-run seventh inning but fell short. Emeline Wines singled to start the frame followed by a single by Sadie Vineyard. Mallory Litz was hit by a pitch and taken out on a fielder’s choice. Lily Hardiek followed with a single that brought home two runs. Claire Kinkelaar reached on a fielder’s choice. Lilly Gannaway singled. With two outs, Vonderheide singled home the other two runs.<\/p>\n

Holsapple picked up the pitching victory. She went the distance allowing seven runs on 13 hits, two walks and struck out one.<\/p>\n

South Central’s Lauren Johnson kept Altamont off the basepaths as her team captured a 10-0 victory in five innings Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Johnson went the distance on the mound, giving up one hit, one walk while striking out six.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Cougars finished with 10 hits. Zoey Feldhake led the way with two singles, a double and three RBI. Johnson aided her own cause with a single, triple and two RBI. Amelia Montes finished with a double and an RBI. Kinlee Thompson added two singles and two RBI while Emily Rose and Annie Ruholl had a single and an RBI each.<\/p>\n

The lone hit for Altamont came off the bat of Adilyn Schnarre with a single.<\/p>\n

It was long ball for the Shoes with two home runs, a triple and three doubles in the contest. Chloe Hoene led the way with a single, double, home run and three RBI. Malea Helmink hit a home run and had two RBI. Lauren Shue had a triple and an RBI and Brooke Thoele and Kylie Borries a double each.<\/p>\n

Alyssa Tipton added two singles and an RBI, Jersey Gaddis a single and two RBI and Olivia Wermert a single and an RBI.<\/p>\n

Gaddis went the seven innings on the mound. She struck out 10, gave up four runs on three hits and two walks.<\/p>\n

St. Elmo\/Brownstown came up with two runs in the sixth inning, what would prove to be the tying and winning runs in a 4-3 victory over Vandalia Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The Vandals moved into a 1-0 opening inning lead then added on another run in the second.<\/p>\n

St. Elmo\/Brownstown tied in the fifth with two runs then held off Vandalia with a 2-1 sixth for the victory.<\/p>\n

Kadence Speagle led in the hitting department with two singles, a double and two RBI. Izzy Orr added a triple and an RBI while Brooklyn Landrus had a double and Auni Wollin a single and an RBI.<\/p>\n

Speagle also picked up the pitching win. She went all seven innings, allowing three runs on four hits, one walk while striking out five.<\/p>\n

At Vandalia<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Maroons moved into a 3-0 opening inning lead then led 6-0 after two and 10-0 after three. They tallied two more runs in the fourth and ended the game by the 10-run rule.<\/p>\n

Garner went the five innings, giving up four hits, four walks and striking out four.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Lydia Wohltman had four singles and three RBI, Kinley Will a single and triple, Lexie Funneman and Peyton Higgins a double each, Allison Boerngen two singles, Callie Faller a single and two RBI, Claire Faller and Kensi Stortzum a single and an RBI each and Aliza Garner an RBI.<\/p>\n

The Eagles finished with 14 hits in the contest led by Jorjia Reich with a single, two doubles and two RBI,\u00a0 Audria Reich with a home run and two RBI, Lexie Ghast with a single, triple and an RBI and Claire Probst with two singles, a double and an RBI. Jacee Dhom finished with three RBI. Allie Hermann had two singles and Karly Deckard added a single and an RBI.<\/p>\n

Deckard came on in relief, going five innings, giving up one hit, two walks and striking out five.<\/p>\n

The Hearts had seven hits led by Natalie Armstrong with two solo home runs and two RBI. Maci Hayes added two singles and a double.<\/p>\n

Natalie Ochs was the winning pitcher. She went 6.2 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, one walk while striking out eight.<\/p>\n
