Effingham moved into a 3-0 lead against Newton in high school softball action Monday but the Eagles came back and led 8-6 after four innings and pushed that to 9-6 in the sixth.<\/p>\n

Going into the bottom of the final inning, Coach Jerry Trigg’s team found its groove again and scored four runs to pull out a 10-9 victory.<\/p>\n

Pitchers had a tough time as it was a hitting day for both teams. Effingham banged out 14 hits while Newton finished with 12.<\/p>\n

Maci Hayes ended the game with a double, triple and drove in two runs for the Hearts while Gieah Schlanser had two singles, a triple and an RBI. Natalie Armstrong had four singles and an RBI, Cora Hartmann two singles and three RBI, Layla McBride a single and an RBI and Ryley Engel an RBI.<\/p>\n

Armstrong finished as the winning pitcher. She went 1.1 innings, allowing two hits and striking out two.<\/p>\n

Newton was led in hitting by Izzy Meinhart with a single, triple and two RBI and Claire Probst and Audria Reich with a single, double and an RBI each. Jacee Dhom and Allie Hermann had two singles each. Dhom added an RBI. Paige Wagner added a single and two RBI.<\/p>\n

At Cowden<\/strong><\/p>\n

Effingham St. Anthony took a 7-0 opening inning lead and never looked back in a 17-2 victory over Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City in five innings via the 10-run rule Monday.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs’s Nancy Ruholl went two innings, giving up only one hit, did not walk a batter and struck out four for the mound victory. Chloe Kelley came on to finish out the final three innings, giving up two runs on four hits, one walk while striking out six.<\/p>\n

Lilly Gannaway had a single, double and two RBI while Sadie Vineyard finished with two singles and four RBI. Emeline Wines and Julia Schultz added a double each. Wines finished with an RBI. Mallory Litz added a single and two RBI while Myra Christie had two singles and Livia Jansen added a single and an RBI.<\/p>\n

Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City was led by Ryleigh Sarver with a double and two RBI and Carissa Wakefield with a single and double.<\/p>\n

Windsor\/Stewardson-Strasburg finished with 11 hits and handed South Central an 8-1 loss Monday.<\/p>\n

The two teams went three innings without a score before the Hatchets broke loose with two runs. South Central pulled back within 2-1 in the top of the fifth but Windsor\/Stew-Stras came back with four runs in the bottom of the frame and tacked on two more in the sixth.<\/p>\n

The Hatchets finished with 11 hits led by Kendra Hayes with a single, double and two RBI, Makenna Corrie with a double and an RBI, Mya Friese, Kalia Friese and Kierra Mueller had two singles each. K. Friese added an RBI.<\/p>\n

South Central tallied seven hits led by Maddie Peddicord with a single, double and an RBI and Kinlee Thompson and Annie Ruholl with two singles each.<\/p>\n

Hayes was the winning pitcher. She gave up one run on seven hits, one walk while striking out 10.<\/p>\n

At Strasburg<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dieterich and Altamont scored a run each in the first inning.<\/p>\n

But that was all the runs for Altamont as Dieterich came back with a four-run third and tacked on a final run in the fifth for a 6-1 victory Monday.<\/p>\n

The Maroons finished with six hits led by Aliza Garner with a single, double and three RBI while Kinley Will added a triple. Allison Boerngen finished with a single and an RBI.<\/p>\n

Boerngen was the winning pitcher. She went the seven innings, giving up one run on three hits, two walks and striking out six.<\/p>\n

Altamont was led by Sophia Long with a double.<\/p>\n

Cumberland put together a nine-hit attack while two pitchers were holding Tri-County\/Kansas\/Shiloh\/Oakland down for an 8-6 victory Monday.<\/p>\n

The Pirates edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead and tacked another single run on in the third around two runs in the second. Three more runs crossed the plate in the sixth and a final run in the seventh.<\/p>\n

Lauren Schnepper led the hitting attack with a single, double and triple. Mia Holsapple added two singles and an RBI while Kada Miles and Emi Brady finished with a single and an RBI each. Baya Carter and Jude Miller added an RBI each.<\/p>\n

Tri-County held a 6-4 lead until the sixth inning but the squad finished with seven errors.<\/p>\n

Cumberland improved to 5-5 and returns to action today against Effingham St. Anthony.<\/p>\n

Martinsville ran out to a 4-0 opening inning lead but St. Elmo\/Brownstown fought right back with three runs in the second. Martinsville led 5-3 after four innings. The Eagles came back with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to move into a 6-5 lead then tallied three in the seventh for the 9-5 victory.<\/p>\n

The Eagles finished with 14 hits in the contest. Izzy Orr had two singles, a triple and three RBI while Cami Haslett added a single, double and two RBI and Brooklyn Landrus a single and double.<\/p>\n

Kadence Speagle finished with two singles and an RBI and Macey Sapp two singles.<\/p>\n

Speagle went the distance on the mound. She gave up five runs on five hits, two walks and struck out nine.<\/p>\n

At Martinsville<\/strong><\/p>\n

Casey-Westfield played host to Teutopolis and edged the Wooden Shoes by a 16-15 count Monday.<\/p>\n

The total hits were 28 during the game with the Wooden Shoes getting 17 of those that included two home runs. Malea Helmink had two singles, a home run and two RBI while Jersey Gaddis had a home run and three RBI.<\/p>\n

Olivia Wermert and Alyssa Tipton finished with a single, double and two RBI each. Kera Hartke finished with two singles and a double while Chloe Hoene added two doubles and an RBI.<\/p>\n

Kylie Borries finished with two singles and three RBI and Lauren Shue had two singles.<\/p>\n

Casey-Westfield’s Arhianna Bonds picked up the pitching win. She went 4.1 innings, giving up three runs on six hits, no walks and struck out five.<\/p>\n

She also aided her own casue with two singles and three RBI. Gyllyana Gilbert had a solo home run.<\/p>\n
