Cumberland High School’s Grady Jones tossed a no-hitter Friday but he didn’t win the high school baseball contest as Newton pulled out a 1-0 victory.<\/p>\n

Jones went all seven innings. He struck out 11 and allowed only one walk.<\/p>\n

The winning run came in the seventh. Newton’s Dominic Baltzell reached base on a dropped third strike. He advanced to second on a ground ball and went to third on a balk. With two outs he scored on an error.<\/p>\n

The Pirates finished with six hits but committed three errors. Grady Jones, Maddox Miller, Hudson McElravy, Lance Lock, Evan Davis and Bryson Weber had a single each for the Pirates.<\/p>\n
