LOUISVILLE — Lawrenceville put together a 29-21 second half and claimed a 59-52 victory over the host school to capture the Class 1A North Clay Boys Basketball Regional Friday evening.<\/p>\n

The Cardinals moved into a 16-14 opening quarter lead before the home crowd Friday evening. Kade Atwood got his team going by hitting three baskets and two free throws for half of his team’s 16 points.<\/p>\n

Cody Zimdars chipped in with a basket and two free throws, Carder Walden a basket and Lucas Griffey two free throws.<\/p>\n

The Cardinals held on to the lead at halftime by a 31-30 tally. Zimdars took over the scoring duties in the second period with four baskets for eight points.<\/p>\n

But the second half proved to be the downfall. Lawrenceville went on a 12-8 third period run to move into a 42-39 third quarter lead and then put the game in the victory category with a 17-13 final period.<\/p>\n

Three players scored in double figures for Lawrenceville. Noah Wilson led the way with 16 while Jayden Goff added 14 and Zander Cessna 12.<\/p>\n

North Clay was led by Zimdars with 22 on seven field goals, two of those three-pointers and a perfect six of six at the line. Kade Atwood finished with 15.<\/p>\n

Lawrenceville advances to the Macon Meridian Sectional and will face Casey-Westfield Wednesday at 7 p.m. Casey-Westfield won its own regional over Cumberland, 50-45.<\/p>\n

North Clay ended the season with a 24-9 record.<\/p>\n

At Casey<\/strong><\/p>\n

Casey-Westfield ended Cumberland’s hopes for a regional championship by claiming a 50-45 victory in the Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional Friday.<\/p>\n

Casey-Westfield put on a 14-5 opening quarter scoring surge and went on to lead 28-15 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Jack Julius connected on three baskets for six points while Leighton Jones added five and High connected on a three-pointer for the Warriors.<\/p>\n

Cameron Roedl hit a three-pointer for the Pirates and Reed Miller added four.<\/p>\n

In the second period, Will Moore scored five. Zack Harmon tried to keep the Pirates in the mix, hitting four baskets for eight.<\/p>\n

The Pirates did come back with an 18-9 third period to pull within 37-33. Harmon continued on with his scoring, connecting on seven points while Roedl also hit seven.<\/p>\n

But Casey-Westfield hung on with a 13-12 final quarter.<\/p>\n

The Warriors were led by Moore with 13 and Julius with 10.<\/p>\n

Cumberland’s Harmon hit eight field goals and two of three at the line for 18 while Roedl finished with 14.<\/p>\n

Casey-Westfield advances to the Macon Meridian Sectional and will take on Lawrenceville at 7 p.m. Wednesday.<\/p>\n

In the other contest, Altamont will meet Tuscola at 7 p.m. Tuesday.<\/p>\n

At Tuscola<\/strong><\/p>\n

The host Tuscola Warriors had the hometown crowd rooting them on in a 62-34 win over Windsor\/Stewardson-Strasburg in the championship game of their own Class 1A Regional Friday evening.<\/p>\n

The Warriors gave notice in the opening quarter with a 14-0 run that nobody was going to beat them on their homecourt.<\/p>\n

From there Tuscola led 26-12 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Windsor\/Stew-Stras played the Warriors even in the second half, 22-22. But that first half spelled doom.<\/p>\n

Connor Musgrave led Tuscola with 17 points while Logan Kurtz added 15 as the team improved to 28-6.<\/p>\n

Windsor\/Stew-Stras finished the season with a 17-15 record. The Hatchets were led in scoring by Tyler Vonderheide with 11 points on four field goals, one a three-pointer and two of four at the line. Auston Rahn added nine and Brody Bible eight.<\/p>\n

Tuscola will now meet Altamont at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Macon Meridian Sectional.<\/p>\n
