OLNEY — Teutopolis edged ahead in a low-scoring opening quarter and then cut loose for a 52-33 victory over Olney, Richland County Friday evening in high school boys basketball action.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes held a 9-7 first quarter lead as Gavin Addis put in four points and Landyn Buening added a three-pointer.<\/p>\n

The Shoes then got on a roll, outscoring Olney 15-5 to lead 24-12 at halftime. Addis hit a three-pointer and two regular baskets for seven while Isaac McWhorter nailed two three-pointers.<\/p>\n

The Shoes had a 28-21 second half. McWhorter hit another three-pointer and was two of two at the line. Thoele went four of six from the line.<\/p>\n

Only two players finished in double digits for the Shoes while nine players scored. McWhorter put in three from beyond the arc and was two of two at the line for 11 points while Addis hit five field goals, one a three-pointer, also for 11.<\/p>\n

In the junior varsity contest, Teutopolis was a 55-48 winner in overtime. The Shoes were led by Jake Probst with 22 points and Jake Kocher with 11.<\/p>\n

St. Elmo\/Brownstown put aside another opponent as the squad defeated Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City by a 66-50 tally Friday.<\/p>\n

The Eagles took the early initiative with an 18-13 opening quarter edge. Jayden Hughett hit two regular baskets and a three-pointer to lead the Eagles with seven points while Graiden Wilhour added five.<\/p>\n

SEB continued on to lead 33-23 at halftime. G. Wilhour added on four more points while Benji Lowe, Jayce Gillespie and Dodge Willms nailed a three-pointer each.<\/p>\n

The Eagles led 45-35 going into the final quarter, then finished strong with a 21-15 run.<\/p>\n

Lowe hit eight field goals, one a three-pointer, to lead the Eagles with 17 points. Also in double figures were Hughett with 15 and G. Wilhour with 11. SEB is now 16-13 on the season.<\/p>\n

The Bobcats were led by Connor Vaughn with 16 points on six field goals, two from beyond the arc and two of two at the line. August Cosart finished with 13 and Remington Howell with 12.<\/p>\n

North Clay improved to 22-8 on the season by downing South Central, 76-47 Friday evening.<\/p>\n

Carder Walden connected on two regular baskets and a three-pointer for seven in the opening quarter 15-10 lead. Walden added on two more three-pointers in the second quarter as the lead went to 38-14 at halftime.<\/p>\n

The Cardinals had a 27-17 third period as Kade Atwood scored 10 points.<\/p>\n

North Clay had five players hit double figures. Cody Zimdars scored 19 points on eight field goals, three from beyond the arc, and two of two at the line. Walden tallied 18 on seven field goals, four of those three-pointers. Mason Byers added 13 while Lucas Griffey finished with 10.<\/p>\n

South Central was led by Westin Nielson with 33 points on 12 field goals, eight of those were three-pointers.<\/p>\n

In junior varsity play, North Clay was a 52-32 winner. The Cardinals were led by Chase Repking with 12, Cooper Lewis with 10 and Grant Probst with 10.<\/p>\n

The Indians ran out to a 17-9 opening quarter lead as Cooper McManaway put in two regular baskets, a three-pointer and a free throw for eight while Kade Milleville added five.<\/p>\n

Altamont then had a 25-11 second period to lead 42-20 at halftime. Seven players scored the Indians in the second quarter.<\/p>\n

Altamont then had a 22-10 third period as Jacob Johnson scored six points and Zaine Miller added four.<\/p>\n

Five players hit double figures for the winners. Bell led the way with 17 points on seven field goals, two from three-point range, and one of two at the line. K. Milleville chipped in with 15, McManaway with 12, Miller with 11 and Jacob Johnson with 10.<\/p>\n

The Hatchets were led by Wyatt Wetherell with eight points on three field goals, one a three-pointer, and one of two at the line.<\/p>\n

Effingham dropped another close loss, this one to Mattoon by a 39-32 count Friday evening on a game heard on 979XFM.<\/p>\n

The Hearts trailed Mattoon 10-9 after the opening quarter and 24-22 at halftime. Jenner Pals connected on a three-pointer in the first quarter and came back to lead the Hearts with seven in the second period.<\/p>\n

Mattoon then had an 8-4 third period as Pals connected on another three-pointer.<\/p>\n

The Green Wave had a 7-6 final quarter edge.<\/p>\n

Effingham was led by Pals with 13 points on four field goals, three of those from beyond the arc, and two of two at the line.<\/p>\n

Robinson played host to Dieterich and was a winner by a 70-66 tally Friday evening.<\/p>\n

Dieterich moved into a 14-12 opening quarter lead as Jackson Icenogle hit a three-pointer and two of two at the line for five points while Ezra Cook also scored five on a regular basket and a three-pointer while Brock Niemerg added four points.<\/p>\n

Dieterich led 32-26 at halftime. Bryce Bohnhoff went on a run, scoring three baskets and a free throw for seven while Niemerg added five points and Alex Schottman connected on two three-pointers.<\/p>\n

Dieterich held a 51-41 lead going into the final quarter. Niemerg tallied six more and Cook five more.<\/p>\n

But Robinson’s Cruz Dunlap and Andrew Sparks went on a rampage. Sparks connected on two regular baskets, a three-pointer and was six of eight at the line for 13 points while Dunlap hit five baskets and two of three free throws for 12. The pair totaled 25 of their team’s 29 points.<\/p>\n

Up to that point, Sparks had scored only six points through three quarters while Dunlap had 12 points over three quarters.<\/p>\n

Newton ran out to a 10-2 opening quarter lead but Flora came back to outscore the Eagles over the next three quarters for a 46-33 victory Friday evening.<\/p>\n

Flora held a 20-18 halftime lead and led 28-25 going into the final quarter.<\/p>\n

Newton hed two players finish with double figures. Kody Bergbower connected on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and was two of two at the line for 13 while Jacob Oldham hit five field goals, one a three-pointer, for 11 and Bergbower finished with five field goals, one a three-pointer and was two of two at the line for 13.<\/p>\n
