LOUISVILLE — Brownstown\/St. Elmo and Dieterich advanced in the Class 1A North Clay Girls Basketball Regional Monday evening.<\/p>\n

Brownstown\/St. Elmo, ranked fifth in the last Class 1A State Basketball Poll, easily handled Red Hill (Bridgeport) by a 47-12 score.<\/p>\n

Dayana Haslett went on a scoring spree in the opening quarter. Haslett connected on four baskets and put in a three-pointer, leading her club into a 20-5 opening quarter lead.<\/p>\n

Danika Ramsey hit two three-pointers in the opening quarter and came back to put in two more in the second period as the Bombers held a 33-8 halftime lead.<\/p>\n

Haslett hit two three-pointers and a free throw in the third quarter. She finished with 22 points on eight field goals, three of those from beyond the arc, and three of six at the line.<\/p>\n

Ramsey tallied 12 points on four three-pointers.<\/p>\n

Dieterich was a 35-26 winner over Altamont as two National Trail Conference teams met.<\/p>\n

The low-scoring contest started out with Dieterich leading after the first quarter by a 5-4 count. Callie Faller scored four of the Maroons five points.<\/p>\n

Avery Aldrich scored all four of Altamont’s points.<\/p>\n

Altamont tied the score at 7-7 at halftime. Aldrich hit another two-pointer.<\/p>\n

Addison Miller hit two free throws for Dieterich’s points.<\/p>\n

But Dieterich then took off in the third quarter. Lena Goebel connected on four baskets and a free throw for nine points while Miller put in a regular basket and two three-pointers for eight. The Maroons led 30-11 going into the final quarter.<\/p>\n

Altamont came back with a 15-5 run only to fall short. Aldrich scored five points while Quincy Niermann tallied four.<\/p>\n

Dieterich hit five of nine free throws in that quarter.<\/p>\n

The Maroons had two players in double figures. L. Goebel led with four field goals and four of five at the line for 12 points while Miller added 10.<\/p>\n

Altamont was led by Aldrich with seven field goals and a free throw for 15.<\/p>\n

Altamont finished the season with an 11-16 record.<\/p>\n

Dieterich advances to face Brownstown\/St. Elmo for the championship Thursday at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

At Casey<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cumberland advanced to the championship game with a 48-18 pounding of host Casey-Westfield in the Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional Monday evening.<\/p>\n

The Pirates, who were ninth in the last Class 1A State basketball poll, shot into a 14-8 opening quarter lead.<\/p>\n

Jude Miller put in two regular baskets, a three-pointer and a free throw for eight of the team’s 14 points.<\/p>\n

Cumberland continued on with a 14-4 second period to lead 28-12 at halftime and led 40-15 going into the final quarter as Miller added on three points in the second period and five more in the third.<\/p>\n

Miller finished with 20 on six field goals, two of those three-pointers, and six of nine at the line. Also in double figures was Alyssa Dittamore with 14 on six field goals and two free throws.<\/p>\n

In the second game, Martinsville won over Macon Meridian, 50-39.<\/p>\n

Cumberland and Martinsville will meet for the championship Thursday at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

At Mount Pulaski<\/strong><\/p>\n

Windsor\/Stewardson-Strasburg pulled out a 41-40 victory in the Class 1A Mount Pulaski Regional Monday evening while Neoga fell to the host squad.<\/p>\n

Neoga opened the evening suffering a 72-27 loss at the hands of host Mount Pulaski.<\/p>\n

Mount Pulaski stepped out to a 19-9 opening quarter lead and led 48-19 halftime lead then finished with a 23-1 third quarter.<\/p>\n

Two players hit double figures for the winners. Murphy led the way with 27 points while Brown added 23.<\/p>\n

Neoga was led by Natalie Ballinger with four field goals and a free throw for nine. The Indians end the season with a 12-18 record.<\/p>\n

In the next game, Windsor\/Stewardson-Strasburg edged Arthur-Lovington\/Atwood-Hammond, 41-40.<\/p>\n

The Hatchets moved into a 10-6 opening quarter lead as Claire VonBehrens hit two baskets and a free throw for five while Clarissa Johnson put in a three-pointer and two free throws, also for five.<\/p>\n

Kendra Hayes then connected on two three-pointers while Johnson added another three in the second period and the score was tied at 23-23 at halftime.<\/p>\n

The third quarter went to the Hatchets by a 13-6 tally for a 36-29 lead. Hayes added five more points and Johnson another three-pointer.<\/p>\n

ALAH then mounted a comeback with an 11-5 final period as A. Vanausdoll put four baskets for eight points while A. Rawlins put in a three. But, Windsor\/Stew-Stras held on for the one-point victory.<\/p>\n

Johnson finished with four three-pointers and two of two at the line for 14 points while Hayes added four baskets, three from three-point range, and was one of two at the line for 12.<\/p>\n

Windsor\/Stew-Stras advances to face Mount Pulaski at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.<\/p>\n
