Eighth-grade boys basketball regionals got underway around the area Saturday. Following are the results:<\/p>\n

Class 1A Effingham Sacred Heart Regional<\/strong><\/p>\n

Newton St. Thomas, Sigel St. Michael and Ramsey were opening round winners in the Sacred Heart Regional.<\/p>\n

St. Thomas edged Altamont Lutheran, 40-37 in the first contest.<\/p>\n

The second game went to St. Michael over Pana Sacred Heart, 31-26.<\/p>\n

The final game of the day saw Ramsey beating Mulberry Grove, 49-33.<\/p>\n

The regional continues Tuesday with Effingham Sacred Heart against Newton St. Thomas at 6 p.m. followed by St. Michael taking on Ramsey at 6:15 p.m.<\/p>\n

The winners advance to the championship game Wednesday at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

At Stewardson<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City won the opener at the Class 8-2A Stewardson-Strasburg Regional Saturday.<\/p>\n

CHBC won over Altamont, 35-29. The two teams were tied at 9-9 in the opening quarter. CHBC edged ahead 19-14 at halftime then had a 13-10 third quarter run.<\/p>\n

Veteto scored 14 and Neu 11 for the winners.<\/p>\n

CHBC was led by Thull with 13.<\/p>\n

In the second contest, St. Elmo\/Brownstown was a 37-22 winner over South Central.<\/p>\n

SEB led 21-12 at halftime and finished strong with a 10-3 final quarter.<\/p>\n

Miller led the winners with 17 points.<\/p>\n

Smith led South Central with six.<\/p>\n

In the third contest, Effingham St. Anthony downed North Clay, 45-17.<\/p>\n

The Bullpups held a 24-6 halftime lead. Phillips led the way in scoring with 18 points.<\/p>\n

North Clay was led by Ruholl with 10.<\/p>\n

Stew-Stras and Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday while St. Elmo\/Brownstown and St. Anthony square off at 7:15.<\/p>\n

The winners advance to a 6 p.m. championship game Wednesday at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

At Casey<\/strong><\/p>\n

Neoga was the lone team that advanced in the Class 8-2A Casey-Westfield Regional.<\/p>\n

In the opener, Casey-Westfield trounced Oblong, 55-29. Neoga then edged Paris Crestwood, 32-30.<\/p>\n

Villa Grove easily won over Arcola, 43-13.<\/p>\n

Hutsonville then defeated Dieterich 28-23.<\/p>\n

Hutsonville took an 11-8 opening quarter lead and led 20-12 at halftime. Dieterich came back with an 11-8 second half but couldn’t make up that first half.<\/p>\n

Dieterich was led by Brody Niemerg with 12 points and Chase Uthell with seven.<\/p>\n

Casey-Westfield and Neoga meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday followed by Villa Grove against Hutsonville at 7.<\/p>\n

Class 7-3A Robinson Nuttall Regional<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teutopolis was a big winner over Red Hill (Bridgeport), 54-23 in the opening game.<\/p>\n

In the second game, Robinson Nuttall downed Jasper County, 54-25.<\/p>\n

Robinson Nutall ran out to a 19-5 opening quarter lead and never looked back.<\/p>\n

Alex Keller led Jasper County with nine points while Jacob Guzman added eight. Trace Cornwell was the top rebounder. Alex Keller the top defender and Grant Frichtl the top passer.<\/p>\n

Jasper County finished the season at 7-15.<\/p>\n

Lawrenceville Parkview downed Cumberland, 50-18.<\/p>\n

Teutopolis will now meet Marshall at 6 p.m. Tuesday followed by Robinson Nuttall against Lawrenceville Parkview at 7:15.<\/p>\n

Class 7-3A Robinson Nuttall Regional<\/strong><\/p>\n

Class 8-4A Effingham Regional<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rochester and Effingham advanced in the Effingham Regional Saturday.<\/p>\n

Rochester won 46-31 over Taylorville in the first contest.<\/p>\n

Effingham then downed Mattoon 55-47 in overtime.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs ran out to a 13-5 opening quarter lead as Thompson hit a three-pointer and Beck and O’Dell scored four points each.<\/p>\n

Thompson then went on a 10-point tear in the second quarter and Effingham led 25-11.<\/p>\n

But Mattoon came back with a 14-6 third quarter to to pull ahead 31-25. The Mustangs fought back with a 16-10 fourth quarter to tie the score and send the game into overtime.<\/p>\n

In the overtime, Effingham went on a 14-6 run for the victory.<\/p>\n

Thompson led the Mustangs with 21 points while Beck added 13 and Bridges was at nine.<\/p>\n

Rochester and Stephen Decatur will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. followed by Effingham taking on Mount Zion at 7:45.<\/p>\n

The winners advance to the championship game Wednesday at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

Class 8-4A Effingham Regional<\/strong><\/p>\n
