The feds allege he and his co-defendant, longtime Springfield lobbyist Mike McClain, operated a criminal enterprise meant to enhance Madigan\u2019s power and enrich his allies.<\/p>\n<p>But the former speaker\u2019s attorneys repeatedly insisted prosecutors are \u2013 quote \u2013 shoving misshapen puzzle pieces together\u201d in order to prove their case.
