Averie Wolf scored her 1,000th career point as Effingham High School pounded Mattoon 62-17 in a girls basketball contest Friday evening.<\/p>\n

The Hearts went out to a 16-4 opening quarter lead. Wolf connected on a two-pointer and then hit a three-pointer with 6.8 seconds remaining in the quarter to move to the 1,000 point plateau.<\/p>\n

She joins her teammate Alyssa Martin, who scored her 1000th point earlier this season and also joins her four brothers, Grant, Landon, Parker and Garrett who all also scored 1,000 points in their careers at EHS. All five Wolfe siblings reached the coveted plateau.<\/p>\n

The Hearts put together another 16-point run in the second quarter to easily lead Mattoon 32-11 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Wolfe finished with 15 points on six field goals, two from three-point range, and one of one at the line.<\/p>\n

Also in double figures was Martin with 12 on five field goals and two free throws.<\/p>\n

The Hearts are now 6-0 in the Apollo Conference and 18-2 overall.<\/p>\n

At Mattoon<\/strong><\/p>\n

Windsor\/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed a 42-37 victory over Neoga in a game played at Lake Land College Friday.<\/p>\n

Neoga moved into a 10-7 opening quarter lead as Chloe Frankie led with two baskets.<\/p>\n

But Windsor\/Stew-Stras came back within 17-16 at halftime as Clarissa Johnson connected on a three-pointer and two free throws.<\/p>\n

The two teams played to a 12-12 third quarter before the Hatchets came back with a 14-8 final period run to pull out out the victory.<\/p>\n

Kendra Hayes, who had four points coming into the final quarter, hit a three-pointer, two regular baskets and two free throws for nine of her team’s points. Johnson contributed another three-pointer and a free throw.<\/p>\n

Johnson led the Hatchets with 14 points on four field goals, two from three-point range, and four of seven at the line. Hayes chipped in with 13 points.<\/p>\n

Neoga was led by C. Frankie with 10 points on five field goals.<\/p>\n
