TOLEDO — It was a long time coming, but North Clay handed Casey-Westfield a 49-39 loss in the championship game of the Cumberland Boys Basketball Tournament. The tournament championship game had been postponed.<\/p>\n

Casey-Westfield moved into a 14-11 opening quarter lead behind Jackson High’s three baskets and two free throws.<\/p>\n

But the Cardinals came back with a 14-4 second period to lead 25-18 at halftime. Lucas Griffey put in two baskets and two free throws for six points while Mason Byers added four.<\/p>\n

The Warriors made a run in the third period with an 11-7 tally behind High’s nine points to pull within 32-29.<\/p>\n

But the Cardinals went on a 17-10 final quarter to claim the championship.<\/p>\n

Griffey finished with 16 points on five field goals and six free throws. Cody Zimdars added 14 points on six field goals and two free throws.<\/p>\n

Casey-Westfield was led by High with 24 points on seven field goals, one a three-pointer and seven of seven at the line.<\/p>\n

At Altamont<\/strong><\/p>\n

Altamont played host to Woodlawn, the No. 1 ranked team in Class 1A and claimed a 53-42 victory Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Indians ran out to a 14-9 opening quarter lead on Woodlawn. Zaine Miller connected on three baskets for six poitns while Parker Bell added a basket and a free throw.<\/p>\n

In the second period, Woodlawn came back within a 12-10 run to pull within 24-21 at halftime. McKay knocked in a three-pointer and a regular basket for five.<\/p>\n

But the Indians took the third quarter and made it their own as seven players put in a basket for a 16-5 run. Carson Milleville and Bell hit a three-pointer each.<\/p>\n

Woodlawn came back with a 16-13 final period but couldn’t get over that third quarter surge by Altamont.<\/p>\n

Three players finished in double figures for the winners. Miller tallied 12 on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and one free throw. Bell added 11 and Cooper McManaway 10.<\/p>\n

Altamont also claimed the junior varsity contest by a 59-50 tally. Blake Berg scored 22, Hayden Bridges 16 and Kaiden Wolff 11.<\/p>\n

Cumberland handed Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran a 76-39 loss Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Pirates edged out to a 19-14 opening quarter lead as Reed Miller put in two baskets and two free throws for six points while Kade McMechan hit two three-pointers and Cameron Roedl one from beyond the arc.<\/p>\n

Chase Stewart went on a tear, knocking in four three-pointers in the second quarter for 12 points while Miller added onto his total with nine more and Roedl hit another three. The Pirates led 43-19 at halftime.<\/p>\n

The Pirates finished out with an 11-10 edge in the final quarter.<\/p>\n

Cumberland had 14 three-pointers in the game led by Stewart with six of those.<\/p>\n

Miller led the way to the victory with 25 points on 10 field goals, one a three-pointer and four of six at the line. Stewart added 18 points on six three-pointers while Roedl tallied 11.<\/p>\n
