TEUTOPOLIS — The Wooden Shoes of Teutopolis, ranked No. 1 in the latest Class 2A girls state poll, was a 67-32 winner over Mattoon Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Shoes ripped out to an 18-3 opening quarter lead behind the scoring of Malea Helmink with three baskets and three of four field goals for nine points.<\/p>\n

Kelsey Niemerg took over the scoring duties in the second period with four as the Shoes led 36-8 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Anna Probst was the leader in the third period. She connected on three baskets and was four of five at the line for 11 points.<\/p>\n

Probst finished with 15 points to lead the Shoes on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of five at the line.<\/p>\n

Also in double digits were Helmink with 11 and Niemerg with 10.<\/p>\n

The Shoes pulled down 10 rebounds led by Helmink with four. Anna Probst led in steals with three while Gaddis, Allie Ruholl and Gabby Tegeler had two each.<\/p>\n

T-town is back in action Saturday in the Breese Central Paws Shootout.<\/p>\n

Brownstown\/St. Elmo, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A, put another victory in the win column by trouncing Mount Olive, 64-27 Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

The Bombers ran out to a 19-11 opening quarter lead as Madi Miller hit two three-pointers and a free throw for seven while Addie Sasse connected on a three-pointer and two free throws for five and Danika Ramsey and Dayana Haslett put in a three-pointer each.<\/p>\n

The lead went to 35-15 at halftime. Haslett led the team in the second quarter with three baskets and two free throws for eight. Ramsey added another three-pointer.<\/p>\n

Haslett continued her hot scoring with five baskets in the third period for 10. She finished with 22 points on 10 field goals, one a three-pointer and one of two at the line.<\/p>\n

Also in double digits were Miller with 15 and Ramsey with 13.<\/p>\n

Mount Olive claimed a 29-18 victory in junior varsity play. Leading BSE was Macy Claycomb with 10 points.<\/p>\n

Dieterich edged out to a 19-18 lead on Ramsey and ended up claiming a 43-38 victory Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

Ramsey came back to take a 25-23 halftime lead but the Maroons put together a 20-13 second half.<\/p>\n

Addison Miller led the team in scoring with 17 points on six field goals, three of those from beyond the arc, and two free throws.<\/p>\n

Lena Goebel also chipped in with 12 points.<\/p>\n

The Maroons pulled down 28 rebounds as Miller had 10 and Goebel and Claire Faller nine each. Miller and Goebel had two assists each. Goebel led in steals with six.<\/p>\n

The Cumberland High School girls basketball team continues to roll along. The victim Thursday evening was Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City. The Pirates won 51-27.<\/p>\n

Jude Miller went on an opening quarter run for the Pirates, scoring on four regular baskets and a three-pointer for 11 while Alysa Dittamore knocked in four baskets for eight and the Pirates held a 25-4 lead.<\/p>\n

Dittamore continued on with four baskets and a free throw for nine in the second quarter and Cumberland led 39-8 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Miller finished with 20 points on eight field goals, one a three-pointer, and three of six at the line. Dittamore added 17 points on eight field goals and a free throw. All their scoring came through three quarters.<\/p>\n

The Bobcats were led by Carissa Wakefield with 13 points on six field goals and a free throw.<\/p>\n

Cumberland will travel to Altamont Monday while Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City won’t return to action until next Thursday, playing host to Effingham St. Anthony.<\/p>\n

Altamont High School improved its National Trail Conference record to 5-1 with a 45-25 victory over South Central Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

The Indians’ Ella Nelson his three shots from beyond the arc for nine points in the opening quarter while Alyssa Ruholl chipped in with four points as Altamont pushed into a 19-6 lead.<\/p>\n

Baylee Brown scored five of the six South Central points.<\/p>\n

The scoring calmed down in the second period as Altamont had a slight 7-4 run to lead 26-10 at halftime. Nelson added her fourth three-pointer.<\/p>\n

In the third period, Avery Aldrich connected on a basket and three free throws for five while Justyce Higgs and Nelson put in a three-pointer each and the lead stood at Altamont 39-17.<\/p>\n

Nelson was the lone player in double figures in the contest with 15 points on five three-pointers.<\/p>\n

South Central was led by Kennah Hiestand with seven on three field goals and a free throw.<\/p>\n

Altamont also won the junior varsity contest, 26-8.<\/p>\n

Altamont is back in action Saturday against Woodlawn.<\/p>\n

The Eagles of Newton flew out to a 17-5 opening quarter lead and went on for a 54-27 victory over Lawrenceville Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

Newton held a 25-12 halftime lead then had a 17-8 third period.<\/p>\n

Three players scored in double figures for the winners. Allie Hermann led the way with 16 points on six field goals and four of six at the line. Grace Schumacher was just a point behind with 15 on seven field goals and a free throw. Maddie Brummer added 10.<\/p>\n

Claire Probst led the team in rebounds with 11. Alani Bergbower and Probst led in assists with four each. Grace Schumacher had four steals.<\/p>\n

Newton improved to 2-1 in the Little Illini Conference, 12-6 overall. The Eagles will be back in action Monday hosting Mount Carmel in another conference matchup.<\/p>\n

Okaw Valley took the opening quarter lead by a 16-14 margin. G. Totten and E. Harris scored eight points each.<\/p>\n

The Timberwolves pushed their lead to 30-19 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Windsor\/Stras-Stras came back with a 14-13 third quarter run as Kendra Hayes went on a tear, hitting three regular baskets and two three-pointers for 12 in the quarter.<\/p>\n

Hayes added on two more three-pointers while Clarissa Johnson connected on two three-pointers in the 14-11 edge but the Hatchets couldn’t get over the opening half run.<\/p>\n

Hayes finished with 22 points on nine field goals, four from three-point range. VonBehrens added 10.<\/p>\n
