St. Anthony, Effingham and Teutopolis competed in the Coles County Girls Basketball Tournament at both Mattoon and Charleston high schools.<\/p>\n

Teutopolis finished second, falling to Galesburg 45-34 in the championship contest.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes beat Jacksonville in their opening game, 62-6.<\/p>\n

The Shoes ripped out to a 27-0 opening quarter lead and the game was put into the win column early.<\/p>\n

Anna Probst connected on three field goals and three free throws for 11 points while Allie Ruholl added 10. Eva Mette led in rebounds with four.<\/p>\n

In the second contest, T-town was a 79-29 winner over Charleston. Once again the Shoes ran out to a big opening quarter lead, 27-5 and had a 25-9 second period.<\/p>\n

T-town had four players in double figures. Jersey Gaddis led with 12 while Anna Probst and Malea Helmink added 11 each and Kelsey Niemerg had 10. Mette pulled down eight rebounds. J. Gaddis had three steals.<\/p>\n

The Shoes then downed Mahomet-Seymour, 58-28. T-town held a 32-13 halftime lead.<\/p>\n

Niemerg led the way with 14 points on five field goals and four free throws. Sophia Martin added 11 and Ruholl 10. Helmink and Martin pulled down six boards each.<\/p>\n

In the championship game, Galesburg tallied a 45-34 win over T-town.<\/p>\n

T-town, once again, jumped out to an opening quarter 15-5 lead. But Galesburg started back to pull within 23-18 at halftime then move into a 29-26 third quarter lead. Galesburg then had a 16-8 final period run for the victory.<\/p>\n

Niemerg had eight points to lead T-town. Helmink had five rebounds.<\/p>\n

Effingham finished sixth. The Hearts beat Champaign Central 82-49 in the opener. Alyssa Martin had a whopping 29 points to lead the Hearts. She connected on nine field goals and five free throws. Averie Wolfe was just a little behind Martin with 23 points and Drew Weis chipped in with 10.<\/p>\n

The Hearts moved into a 32-15 opening quarter lead and led 50-26 at halftime.<\/p>\n

In the second contest, EHS ran out to a 29-13 opening quarter lead but Morton came back over the next three quarters and captured a 65-62 victory.<\/p>\n

Martin again had a big game for the Hearts with 29 points on 11 field goals and six free throws. Wolfe and Tessa Raddatz added 11 each while McKenzie Love finished with 10.<\/p>\n

Effingham then handed Danville a 66-26 loss. EHS ran out to a 46-11 halftime lead, holding Danville to zero points in the second quarter.<\/p>\n

Three players finsihed in double figures. Wolfe and Martin ended with 16 points each. Wolfe had five field goals, one a three-pointer, and five free throws while Martin had seven field goals and two free throws.<\/p>\n

In the final contest, EHS squared off against Effingham St. Anthony and was a 49-36 winner.<\/p>\n

The Hearts led 30-18 at halftime and had a 10-6 third quarter run.<\/p>\n

Martin led with 14 points on seven field goals while Love added 10.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony was led by Nancy Ruholl with 14 on five field goals, one a three-pointer and three free throws.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony opened the tourney with a 57-49 loss to Sullivan. The Bulldogs trailed 20-13 in the opening quarter and 31-26 at halftime. Sullivan had a 20-12 final quarter.<\/p>\n

Ruholl hit nine field goals, three from beyond the arc, and two free throws for 23 points. Lilly Gannaway and Addie Lauritzen added 10 each.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony won over Mahomet-Seymour, 45-40.<\/p>\n

Mahomet-Seymour moved into an 8-6 opening quarter lead but St. Anthony came back to move ahead 25-23 at halftime. Ruholl connected on two three-pointers, a regular basket and two free throws for 10 in the second period.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony held on as Ruholl hit eight points in the final period for the win.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs then picked up an easy 67-32 win over Charleston. No other information provided.<\/p>\n

In the final game, the Bulldogs lost to Effingham 49-37.<\/p>\n
