LOUISVILLE — Stewardson-Strasburg won the championship of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

Stew-Stras edged Effingham Sacred Heart in the title contest, 26-25.<\/p>\n

The third place game went to Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City over Sigel St. Michael, 41-24.<\/p>\n

CHBC held a 12-4 opening quarter lead and led 16-10 at halftime. The Sharpshooters came back with a 10-8 third quarter run to trail just 24-20.<\/p>\n

But CHBC finished strong with a 17-4 final period run. Drake Thull led the way with 19 points. Easton Kramer chipped in with eight.<\/p>\n

At Teutopolis<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teutopolis was a winner over Jasper County in both seventh- and eighth-grade play Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade contest 42-18, taking a 27-11 halftime lead.<\/p>\n

Bryson Meyer scored 16 for the winners while Noah Imburgia added nine.<\/p>\n

Jasper County was led by Cash Collins with five points.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade game, T-town won 44-13, ripping out to a 23-6 opening quarter lead and leading 31-6 at halftime.<\/p>\n

T-town was led by Mason Giles with 11 points and Pete Brummer with eight.<\/p>\n

Jasper County was led by Jacob Guzman with eight. Grant Frichtl was the top defender and top passer.<\/p>\n

Jasper County is 8-8 in seventh-grade and 7-9 in eighth-grade.<\/p>\n

At Altamont<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mulberry Grove came calling and captured a 36-32 win over Altamont in seventh-grade action Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

Altamont held a 10-8 opening quarter lead and led 17-16 at halftime and 25-24 going into the final quarter.<\/p>\n

That’s when Mulberry Grove broke loose for a 12-7 final period to pull out the win. Mulberry Grove’s Wagoner connected on eight of the 12 points on two baskets and two free throws in that quarter.<\/p>\n
