ST. ELMO — Cumberland and the host school claimed victories Wednesday evening at the 65th\u00a0 Annual St. Elmo Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament.<\/p>\n

Cumberland opened the evening with an 82-31 victory over Ramsey. The Pirates raced out to a 26-10 opening quarter lead. Kade McMechan hit two three-pointers while Chase Stewart put in a three and a two for five points. Cameron Roedl\u00a0 also hit a three and put in two of two at the line.<\/p>\n

The lead went to 47-21 at halftime. Stewart added another three while Reed Miller took over with two baskets and two of two at the line for six.<\/p>\n

The Pirates continued on with a 27-5 third period. McMechan and Isaac Venatta put in six points each for the Pirates as the lead stood at 74-26.<\/p>\n

Cumberland had four players hit double figures. McMechan tallied six field goals, two from three-point range, to lead with 14 points. Stewart added 13, Roedl 11 and Venetta 10. Seven more players scored for the winners.<\/p>\n

In the second game, St. Elmo\/Brownstown handed Patoka\/Odin a 51-43 loss.<\/p>\n

SEB edged out to an 11-10 opening quarter lead as Dodge Willms put in two three-pointers and Benji Lowe connected for five points.<\/p>\n

Willms hit two more three-pointers in the second quarter for 12 at halftime. M. Schaub also put in two three-pointers.<\/p>\n

The Eagles finished with a 25-22 second half. G. Wilhour hit seven of eight from the free throw line while Lowe added five more points.<\/p>\n

St. Elmo\/Brownstown was led by three players in double figures. Willms connected on six field goals, five from beyond the arc, and was two of two at the line for 19. Lowe added 12 and G. Wilhour 10.<\/p>\n

The tournament continues tonight as Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City meets Mulberry Grove at 6:15 p.m. in the consolation bracket and Windsor\/Stewardson-Strasburg faces Hillsboro at 7:45 in winner bracket play.<\/p>\n

Cumberland and St. Elmo will square off Friday at 7:45 p.m. in the winner bracket. Ramsey and Patoka\/Odin meet Ramsey in consolation bracket action at 6:15 p.m.<\/p>\n

The finals are scheduled for Saturday.<\/p>\n
