The National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament was contested Friday and Saturday at North Clay.<\/p>\n

In the opener Friday, Altamont downed Dieterich, 33-25. Altamont moved into a 16-7 opening quarter lead and led 24-14 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Dieterich had a slight 4-2 edge in the third period but Altamont finished off the final quarter with an 8-7 lead.<\/p>\n

Neu led the way for the winners with 14 points while Veteto added 11.<\/p>\n

Dieterich was led by Brock Koester with seven points and Brody Niemerg with six.<\/p>\n

Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City handily defeated Windsor, 43-17.<\/p>\n

CHBC ran out to a 14-2 opening quarter lead and had an 18-4 third period run.<\/p>\n

The Bobcats were led by Brody Cox with 12 and Lane Reed with eight.<\/p>\n

Windsor was led by Montgomery with seven.<\/p>\n

Neoga edged South Central, 32-29 in the third contest.<\/p>\n

St. Elmo\/Brownstown was an easy 41-15 winner over North Clay.<\/p>\n

The tournament continued Saturday.<\/p>\n

Stewardson-Strasburg ran out to a 21-1 opening quarter lead on Altamont and went on for a 43-9 victory.<\/p>\n

Pruemer led the winners with 17 points on seven field goals and three free throws.<\/p>\n

Neu was the leading scorer for Altamont with six.<\/p>\n

In the sixth game, Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City was a 37-27 winner over Cumberland.<\/p>\n

CHBC ran out to a 13-0 opening quarter lead. Cumberland came back in the third period within 26-21 but CHBC had an 11-6 final period run.<\/p>\n

Lane Reed led the winners with 13 points while Ely Hoene added 10.<\/p>\n

Cumberland was led by Miles with eight.<\/p>\n

Effingham Sacred Heart defeated Neoga, 42-35.<\/p>\n

In the final game of the day, Sigel St. Michael edged St. Elmo\/Brownstown, 19-13.<\/p>\n

The tournament continues today with three games. Dieterich will meet Windsor at 5:30 p.m. followed by Altamont and Cumberland squaring off at 6:45 and Stewardson-Strasburg meeting Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City at 8.<\/p>\n

Tuesday’s games find South Central against North Clay at 5:30, Neoga facing St. Elmo\/Brownstown at 6:45 p.m. followed by Sacred Heart taking on St. Michael at 8.<\/p>\n

T-town was a 42-7 winner in the first game. The Shoes ran out to an 8-0 first quarter lead and led 20-1 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Noah Imburgia led the winners with 10 points.<\/p>\n

In the second contest, Mattoon edged T-town, 30-28.<\/p>\n

T-town moved into an 11-1 opening quarter lead but Mattoon came back with a 12-2 second period and continued on with a 13-2 third quarter run. T-town attempted another comeback with a 13-4 final period but finished with the two-point loss.<\/p>\n

Max Bloemer scored 13 for the Shoes.<\/p>\n
