Effingham Junior High School edged Salem Franklin Park, 37-36 in eighth-grade boys basketball competition Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs trailed Salem 12-6 after the opening quarter and 16-14 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Effingham played Salem even in the third quarter at 13-13 then had an 11-7 final quarter run to pull out the win.<\/p>\n

In that final period run, Justus Bridges hit two three-pointers while Deek Thompson had a three-pointer and Peyton O’Dell connected on two free throws.<\/p>\n

Thompson finished with 15 points on five field goals and three of four at the line. Bridges chipped in with eight.<\/p>\n

In the seventh-grade game, Salem Franklin Park was a 28-15 winner over Effingham.<\/p>\n

Salem edged out to a 7-6 opening quarter lead but Effingham came back to move ahead 14-9 at halftime. Franklin Park then had a 19-1 second half.<\/p>\n

Noah Hamilton led the Mustangs with seven points while Kael Koberlein added six.<\/p>\n

Dieterich and Altamont split victories in seventh- and eighth-grade action Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

Dieterich won the seventh-grade game, 45-10. The Roadrunners held a 14-2 opening quarter lead and led 30-8 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Chase Bohnhoff scored 17 for the winners while Brock Koester added eight.<\/p>\n

Altamont was led by Parker Baxter with six.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade action, Altamont captured a 57-41 victory.<\/p>\n

Altamont held a 13-8 opening quarter lead as Neu put in two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight. Neu continued on with two more three-pointers in the second period and a regular basket for eight more<\/p>\n

Altamont went on for the 57-41 victory. Neu knocked in six three-pointers and three regular baskets for a whopping 26 points. Also in double figures was Veteto who tallied 23 points on 10 field goals and two free throws.<\/p>\n

Dieterich was led by Brody Niemerg with 11 and Brock Koester with nine.<\/p>\n

Robinson came calling and captured two victories over Jasper County Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

In seventh-grade play, Robinson was a 54-37 winner, taking a 26-19 halftime lead and finishing out with a 16-7 final quarter.<\/p>\n

Liam Pica scored 12 to lead the winners.<\/p>\n

Jasper County was led by Kamden Klier with 11 and was the top defender. Duncan Miller was the top rebounder and Cash Collins the top passer.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade play, Robinson won big with a 51-16 score.<\/p>\n

Drake Ray led the winners with 14 points.<\/p>\n

Jasper County was led by Jacob Guzman with five.<\/p>\n

Jasper County is 4-6 in both seventh- and eighth-grade play and is back in action Thursday hosting North Clay.<\/p>\n
