Effingham Sacred Heart and Altamont picked up a victory each in junior high boys basketball Thursday.<\/p>\n

Altamont was a 39-15 winner in the seventh-grade contest. Altamont held a 5-4 opening quarter lead then broke the game open with an 18-0 second period run.<\/p>\n

Nelson and Arnold scored eight points each for the winners.<\/p>\n

The Shamrocks were led by Teddy Jansen with 13.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade contest, Sacred Heart claimed a 47-33 victory.<\/p>\n

The Shamrocks held a 22-17 halftime lead.<\/p>\n

Gabe Traub led the way in scoring with 22 points. Bryce Hayes chipped in with eight. The Shamrocks improved to 6-0.<\/p>\n

Altamont was led by Veteto with 11 points.<\/p>\n

Sacred Heart is back in action Monday at Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City.<\/p>\n

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade contest, 47-25.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony held a 20-12 halftime lead. Nash Hoene led in scoing with 14 points.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade action, Mattoon captured a 33-27 win.<\/p>\n

Mattoon held an 18-10 halftime lead. St. Anthony came back to tie the score at 22-22 in the third quarter but Mattoon finished with an 11-5 final period run.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony was led by G. Bloemer with eight points.<\/p>\n

Effingham fell to Charleston in both seventh- and eighth-grade action Thursday.<\/p>\n

In the seventh-grade game, Charleston won 40-11, taking a 19-2 opening half lead.<\/p>\n

Effingham was led by Cash Hutmacher with three points.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade play, Charleston was a 38-27 winner.<\/p>\n

Charleston stepped out to a 14-6 opening quarter lead and led 16-8 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Effingham mounted a comeback but couldn’t overcome that first half lead.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs were led by Calvin Beck with eight points.<\/p>\n

Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City went three overtimes in the seventh-grade game to pull out a 38-36 victory over St. Elmo\/Brownstown Thursday.<\/p>\n

SEB held a 25-12 lead going into the final period when CHBC came back with a furious 14-1 rally to knot the score. Both teams scored three in the first overtime and four in the second overtime.<\/p>\n

Tyce Klrcher led the winners with 24 points.<\/p>\n

St. Elmo\/Brownstown was led by Schaub with 14.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade action, CHBC edged SEB by a 31-27 count.<\/p>\n

SEB held a 23-22 lead going into the final period when CHBC rallied with a 9-4 run for the victory.<\/p>\n

Drake Thull scored 15 to lead the winners.<\/p>\n

Schaub led SEB with 14.<\/p>\n

Dieterich came calling and claimed two victories over South Central Thursday.<\/p>\n

Dieterich was a 46-22 winner in the seventh-grade contest. Chase Bohnhoff got the winners off in the right direction, scoring 10 of his team’s opening quarter 16 points. Dieterich then had an 18-2 second period run as Bohnhoff connected on three baskets, two of those three-pointers.<\/p>\n

Bohnhoff finished with 18 points to lead the winners.<\/p>\n

South Central was led by Q. Bonner with six points.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade action, Dieterich won 36-30. South Central moved into a 19-15 halftime lead but Dieterich came back with an 11-5 third quarter to move ahead 26-24.<\/p>\n

Dieterich then finished strong with a 10-6 final period. Brody Niemerg led the winners with 14 points while Chase Bohnhoff added 11.<\/p>\n

South Central was led by B. Skibinski with nine.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town held a 25-23 halftime lead then had an 18-5 third quarter run for a 58-46 victory.<\/p>\n

Connor Althoff and Maddux Pals scored 12 points each for the winners.<\/p>\n
