BROWNSTOWN — Brownstown\/St. Elmo took off in the opening quarter and went on for a 58-21 victory over Litchfield in girls high school baseball action Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

The Bombers held a 19-5 opening quarter lead as Danika Ramsey knocked in two three-pointers. That lead went to 43-5 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Dayana Haslett led in the second quarter with 10 points while Madi Miller added six and Ramsey five more.<\/p>\n

Four players hit double figures for BSE. Haslett led the way with 16 points on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and five free throws. Miller added 15 points on seven fields goals and a free throw. Ramsey tallied 14 points on five field goals, four of those from beyond the arc, and Presley Williams chipped in with 10.<\/p>\n

Litchfield won the junior varsity contest, 15-8.<\/p>\n

Effingham St. Anthony won easily over Sandoval by a 67-28 count Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

Nancy Ruholl got the Bulldogs off in the right direction in the opening quarter, scoring 14 points on four two-pointers and two three-pointers.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs held a 45-11 halftime lead. This quarter it was Lilly Gannaway on the offense, scoring 11 points on four two-pointers and a three.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs had a 22-17 second half.<\/p>\n

Ruholl finished with 20 points with eight field goals, three from beyond the arc, and one of three at the line. Gannaway hit seven field goals, one a three-pointer, for 15.<\/p>\n

Ali Kollmann led in rebounds with five. Ruholl had eight assists and five steals.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony is now 2-0 on the season and will be back in action today at the Pana Tournament against Breese Mater Dei at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

South Central hosted North Clay in a National Trail Conference matchup and claimed a 36-28 victory Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

The Cougars edged out to a 7-6 opening quarter lead then had a 13-5 second period to lead 20-11 at halftime.<\/p>\n

North Clay came back with a 12-8 third quarter run to pull within 28-19 but South Central got back on track in the final period.<\/p>\n

Baylee Brown led South Central with 16 points.<\/p>\n

Alani Bergbower and Allie Hermann scored 14 points each to lead the Eagles. Also in double figures was Izzy Meinhart with 11.<\/p>\n

Hermann led in rebounding with eight while Claire Probst had seven. Bergbower and Meinhart led in steals with four each. Bergbower, Hermann and Emma Schumacher had three assists each.<\/p>\n

Windsor\/Stew-Stras was led by Kendra Hayes with 17 points. She connected on six field goals, three of those three-pointers and two free throws.<\/p>\n

Newton moves to 2-0 on the season and will be back in action Monday against Flora in the Bob Kerans Tournament.<\/p>\n

Newton also claimed the junior varsity game, 47-20.<\/p>\n

Breese Central moved into a 20-8 opening quarter lead as Alyssa Martin scored four for the Hearts.<\/p>\n

EHS came back with a 9-6 second period to pull within 26-17. Martin connected on a field goal and a free throw.<\/p>\n

But here came Central with a 20-9 third quarter and a 14-8 final period.<\/p>\n

The Hearts had one player in double figures. Martin hit six field goals and three free throws for 15 points.<\/p>\n
