Dieterich won its own seventh-grade boys basketball tournament Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

Dieterich downed Newton St. Thomas 35-24.<\/p>\n

DIeterich held a 13-9 first half lead then had a 22-15 second half run.<\/p>\n

Brock Koester led the winners with 15 points while Landon McQueen added 10.<\/p>\n

Dieterich then took a 43-29 victory over Olney St. Joseph.<\/p>\n

The Roadrunners held a 26-19 halftime lead then had a 17-10 second half.<\/p>\n

Chase Bohnhoff tallied 16 to lead the way while Koester added 10.<\/p>\n

Effingham Junior High School’s eighth-grade team handed Flora a 47-35 loss Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs trailed Flora 20-19 at halftime then came back with a 15-8 third quarter run and outdistanced Flora.<\/p>\n

Two players finished in double figures. Calvin Beck led the way with 14 points while Deek Thompson added 12.<\/p>\n

In the seventh-grade contest, Flora took a 19-3 halftime lead and went on for a 36-8 victory over Effingham.<\/p>\n

Effingham Sacred Heart split victories with Mattoon St. John’s Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

The Shamrocks fell in the seventh-grade contest, 27-9. Mattoon St. John’s ran out to a 13-2 opening quarter lead and never looked back.<\/p>\n

Teddy Jansen led Sacred Heart with five points.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade play, Sacred Heart was a 38-35 winner. St. John’s held a 21-20 halftime lead before Sacred Heart came back in the third quarter with a 12-8 run and held on for the win.<\/p>\n

Bryce Hayes led the way with 15 points while Gabe Traub and Logan Schoenhoff added 10 each.<\/p>\n

Pana Sacred Heart won the seventh-grade game 37-17, stepping out to a 29-7 halftime lead.<\/p>\n

CHBC was led by Tyce Kircher with five points.<\/p>\n

Drake Thull had a big scoring contest in In the eighth-grade game. Thull connected on 16 two-pointers and was one of two at the line for 33 points.<\/p>\n

Also in double figures was Lane Reed with 10.<\/p>\n

CHBC ran out to an 18-2 opening quarter lead and tallied a 60-30 victory.<\/p>\n

Altamont was led by Weston Nelson with three points.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade play, Vandalia was a 33-27 winner.<\/p>\n

Altamont held a 16-15 halftime lead but Vandalia tied in the third quarter 19-19. Vandalia then came back with a 14-8 final period to pull out the win.<\/p>\n

Schmidt led T-town with seven points. The Shoes improved to 21-1.<\/p>\n

Hartrich led Newton with six.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade play, T-town was a 46-15 winner, taking a 22-9 opening half lead.<\/p>\n

Jasper County fell to Paris Mayo in both games Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Paris Mayo edged Jasper County 31-28 in overtime in the seventh-grade game. Mayo held a 14-10 halftime lead but Jasper County came back to tie the score and send the game into overtime where Mayo had a 5-2 run.<\/p>\n

Cash Collins led Jasper County with 15 points. Kamden Klier was the top rebounder and top defender while Tristian Lingafelter was the top passer.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade play, Paris Mayo ran out to a 25-8 halftime lead and went on for a 60-34 victory.<\/p>\n

Jacob Guzman scored 13 and Grant Frichtl 11 for the winners. Alex Keller was the top rebounder and top defender. Frichtl was the top passer.<\/p>\n

Jasper County is 3-4 in the seventh-grade and 4-3 in eighth-grade.<\/p>\n
