ROBINSON — Effingham High School opened the girl basketball season with a big scoring victory Monday evening.<\/p>\n

The Hearts pounded Robinson by a 55-19 score. EHS moved ahead 12-2 in the opening quarter as Averie Wolfe, Tessa Raddatz and McKenzie Love scored two baskets each.<\/p>\n

EHS continued on with a 17-11 second period to lead 29-13 at halftime. Alyssa Martin took over with three baskets for six points while Wolfe chipped in with five.<\/p>\n

Martin then connected on seven points in the third period and Wolfe tacked on five more as the Hearts went on a 22-3 run to lead 51-16 going into the final period.<\/p>\n

Three players hit double figures for the Hearts. Wolfe led the way with 16 on five field goals that included one three-pointer and two of two at the line. Martin added 15 on seven field goals and one of two at the line. Love finished with 10 points on eight field goals and two of two at the line.<\/p>\n

The Hearts hit 25 field goals, one three-pointer, and was seven of eight at the line.<\/p>\n

Robinson was led by Zoe Tuttle with 12 of her team’s 19 points.<\/p>\n

Teutopolis competed in opening round play of the NAL Tournament Monday.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes trounced Charleston by a 75-17 count. The Wooden Shoes ran out to a 24-5 opening quarter lead as Anna Probst scored eight points while Sophia Martin had a three-pointer and a free throw and Ruholl a three-pointer.<\/p>\n

The Shoes moved ahead 43-7 at halftime and went on for the big scoring win.<\/p>\n

Twelve players scored for the Shoes. Niemerg tallied 13 on six field goals that included one three-pointer. Probst added 10.<\/p>\n

T-town hit nine three-pointers in the contest. Jersey Gaddis and Kailyn Gaddis knocked in two each.<\/p>\n

Eva Mette led in steals with four while Malea Helmink had three. Gabby Tegeler led in rebounds with five.<\/p>\n

Brownstown\/St. Elmo held off Cumberland in the season opener for both teams, by a 36-33 count Monday evening.<\/p>\n

The two teams played to a 4-4 opening quarter tie before Danika Ramsey knocked in three trifectas in the second period to push the Bombers ahead 17-12 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Cumberland came back with a 9-7 third quarter as Jude Miller, Jade Carr and Raegan Jones hit from beyond the arc. The Pirates still trailed by a 24-21 score.<\/p>\n

And, that’s where the margin ended as BSE claimed the three-point victory.<\/p>\n

Ramsey led the way for BSE with 12 points while Madi Miller added 11.<\/p>\n

Cumberland was led by Miller with 16 points on six field goals, two of those from beyond the three-point mark, and two of four at the line.<\/p>\n

Neoga rallied with an 18-5 final quarter to claim a 49-36 victory over Moweaqua Central A&M Monday evening.<\/p>\n

A&M held an 8-5 opening quarter lead and led 22-14 halftime lead.<\/p>\n

Neoga came back with a 17-10 third quarter to tie the game at 31-31 going into the final period. The Indians then went on an 18-5 run to claim the victory.<\/p>\n

Malory Henderson scored 17 on two field goals and 13 of 17 at the line for the winners. Maddie Frankie chipped in withi 10 points.<\/p>\n

Neoga also won the junior varsity contest, 43-9.<\/p>\n
