Effingham St. Anthony downed Casey-Westfield in both seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball competition Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade contest, 36-31. St. Anthony ran out to an 11-4 opening quarter lead and led 22-15 at halftime. Casey-Westfield came back to outscore the Bullpups 16-14 in the second half but the Bullpups had that big scoring opening half.<\/p>\n

Three St. Anthony players finished with eight points each. James Dust, Nash Hoene and Ryan Wohltman. The Bullpups are 5-0 on the season.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony ran out to a 15-2 opening quarter lead but Casey-Westfield battled back to pull within 21-16 at halftime. St. Anthony then had a 13-2 final period.<\/p>\n

Having led the winners with 12 points while Bales chipped in with nine. St. Anthony improved to 4-1.<\/p>\n

Mount Zion came calling and captured the eighth-grade victory by a 57-50 tally Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

The two teams were tied at 7-7 after the first quarter. Mount Zion then went on a 21-12 second quarter run to lead 28-19 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Effingham had a 32-29 second half but it was too little to overcome that opening half.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs were led by Deek Thompson with 25 points and Calvin Beck with eight.<\/p>\n

There were no seventh-grade results.<\/p>\n

Effingham Sacred Heart captured a big victory over Windsor in eighth-grade action but fell in the seventh-grade contest Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

Windsor won the seventh-grade game, 33-17. Windsor held a 12-9 halftime lead then had a 12-4 third quarter run.<\/p>\n

Jaiden King led the winners with 26 points.<\/p>\n

Sacred Heart was led by Teddy Jansen with nine points.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade competition, Sacred Heart pounded Windsor, 65-5.<\/p>\n

The Shamrocks held a 28-3 halftime lead. Three players hit double figures. Bryce Hayes led the way with 17 while Gabe Traub had 14 and Chris Kenter 2.<\/p>\n

Windsor was led by Wilborn with three.<\/p>\n
