Effingham High School won the Staunton Regional championship.<\/em><\/p>\n

Effingham High School made more history Saturday by winning a regional for the first time in EHS soccer history, defeating Staunton 4-0 at the Staunton Regional.<\/p>\n

“This season we broke our all-time wins record, won the Apollo Conference for the first time in EHS soccer history, Maicol Sefton broke the all-time individual goals in a season record, that he set last year, and we broke the all time goals scored record,” said EHS Coach Logan Arney. “It\u2019s been a season to remember!”<\/p>\n

“Before the season, our team goals were to win the Apollo Conference and win regionals and we accomplished both. Now we can look ahead to our sectional, ready to continue our history making journey!”<\/p>\n

The Hearts came through with a 4-0 victory over Staunton to win the Staunton Regional.<\/p>\n

“Today\u2019s game was a hard-fought game with a lot of physicality but we were able to come out ahead with a convincing clean sheet in a regional championship,” said Coach Arney. “Maicol Sefton ended with two goals. Rece Kinney scored a goal and added an assist.<\/p>\n

“Gage Kinder scored the ever-important opening goal. Luis Gonzalez had a strong performance which included one assist. Brady Wilson had a great game, communicating and organizing the team to orchestrate a two-save clean sheet.”<\/p>\n

The Hearts will host a sectional beginning Tuesday. They will take on Carlinville, who was a 3-2 winner over Litchfield, at 5 p.m. Ticket prices are set by the IHSA and we are not allowed to accept passes and Unit 40 students do not get in free to post season events. There is not a discount for students or senior citizens at IHSA postseason events. Soccer Sectional Tickets – $8 digital or $10 Cash. In the second match, Teutopolis will face Rochester at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

“We are grateful for home field advantage as we\u2019ve only lost one home game in the last two seasons combined,” said Arney. “The support of our fans and community play a big part in our success, so come out and support the Hearts as we start our first ever sectional run.”<\/p>\n

Teutopolis claims regional championship by blanking Newton.<\/em><\/p>\n

At Altamont<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teutopolis High School clinched the Altamont Regional championship by blanking Newton, 2-0 Friday.<\/p>\n

“Our goals were scored by Isaac McWhorter, who was assisted by Simon Lee in the 17th minute, and Landyn Buening, who was assisted by Simon Lee in the 47th minute,” said T-town Coach Aaron Wendt.<\/p>\n

“Goalkeeper Jake Kocher added to his clean sheet tally and had five saves on the night.<\/p>\n

“This was a great team win tonight and we are very proud of our guys.”<\/p>\n

T-town improved to 15-3-3 and advances to the sectional semifinal Tuesday at Effingham. They will play Rochester, who was a 4-0 winner over Salem in regional action, at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
