Gov. Juliana Stratton is hoping to bring some of Gov. JB Pritzker\u2019s legislative victories to the U.S. Senate as her top initiatives if she\u2019s elected next year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stratton released her first policy platform this week. It details her positions on health care, cost of living, housing and economic issues. In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IsmlgfpR9a8\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">video statement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> explaining her vision, Stratton pointed to her record as lieutenant governor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHere in Illinois, we\u2019ve raised the minimum wage, created thousands of new jobs, brought down the cost of prescription drugs and made child care more affordable,\u201d Stratton said in the video. \u201cAnd now I\u2019m taking that blueprint to Washington, D.C.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her 29-point agenda includes several policies Pritzker\u2019s administration has passed through the legislature since taking office in 2019. Stratton said her work in Pritzker\u2019s administration demonstrates her ability to pass and implement policies that make life more affordable for Americans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like many other Democrats, Stratton blamed President Donald Trump\u2019s tariffs and economic policies for making life more expensive for people. But she also said the problem goes beyond the Trump administration: \u201cRising prices are just one symptom of a broken system. For too long, big corporations across every sector have operated virtually unchecked by Washington.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stratton pledged not to accept any campaign contributions from political action committees run by corporations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, a new political action committee with ties to Illinois\u2019 billionaire governor launched on Tuesday to support Stratton\u2019s campaign. The Illinois Future PAC is led by Quentin Fulks \u2014 a longtime political operative for Pritzker. It already raised $1 million, according to a news release, but because federal rules governing super PACs don\u2019t require immediate disclosure of contributions, it\u2019s not clear how much of the money \u2014 if any \u2014 came from Pritzker. The new PAC allows Pritzker \u2014 whose net worth is approaching $4 billion \u2014 to contribute more to Stratton\u2019s campaign than federal individual contribution allow.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other Democratic Senate candidates have also released policy plans. U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi released his \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cst.brightspotcdn.com\/cd\/c0\/a9345f554d7cbda1b2f4ccb722ee\/rk-trump-accountability-plan.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trump accountability<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d plan in August while U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly unveiled her own <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.robinforsenate.com\/news\/press-release-9-29-2025\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">economic-focused priorities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Economics and affordability<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of Stratton\u2019s top economic priorities is raising the federal minimum wage to $15. Pritzker signed a bill about one month into his first term in 2019 to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/capitolnewsillinois.com\/news\/illinois-minimum-wage-to-increase-to-15-on-jan-1-completing-6-year-transition\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">raise<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Illinois\u2019 minimum wage to $15 over six years, checking off one of his top campaign promises. The federal minimum wage has been $7.25 since 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stratton also called for expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit for low- and moderate-income workers. She did not specify what changes she would support.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More specifically, Stratton supports a plan to cap credit card interest rates, which she said lock people into a never-ending cycle of debt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stratton is also proposing a tax increase on people earning $1 million or more each year, which she said would allow Congress to pass a corresponding tax cut for middle-income earners. Illinois voters rejected Pritzker\u2019s proposal to abolish Illinois\u2019 flat tax structure to raise taxes on high-income earners in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other parts of Stratton\u2019s plan to address cost-of-living problems focus on agriculture and food availability. She\u2019d seek to create a permanent grant program that allows states to source food from local farmers to go to food banks. Illinois lawmakers, in partnership with the Pritzker administration, have taken multiple steps in recent years to codify those practices in state law. Such a move at the federal level would restore nationwide access to abortion as state laws now vary widely since Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pritzker\u2019s administration has also made health insurance regulation a top priority, which is reflected in Stratton\u2019s agenda. She proposed expanding federal \u201cparity laws\u201d to cover more mental health treatments at the same level as physical health care treatments and requiring Medicare to cover long-term care home services, as well as vision and hearing services.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stratton also supports universal Medicare for All.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Housing<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On housing, Stratton proposed creating a tax incentive to encourage construction companies to build \u201cstarter homes\u201d that must be priced below the median price of housing, which is currently $410,800 nationally and $319,300 in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fred.stlouisfed.org\/series\/MEDLISPRIIL\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Illinois<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, according to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fred.stlouisfed.org\/series\/MSPUS\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conversely, she proposed that Congress create a penalty to reduce tax incentives for hedge funds that buy single-family homes.
