EAST PEORIA — Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School won the Class 1A State Tournament baseball championship during the weekend.<\/p>\n

The Bullpups opened its stay at State with a 10-3 win over Bloomington Corpus Christi.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony edged out to a 2-1 opening inning lead then tallied two more in the third, five in the fourth and one in the seventh behind a 10-hit attack.<\/p>\n

Reed Schumacher led the way for St. Anthony with three singles and an RBI while Jaxon Having had a single and triple, Sam Vineyard added two singles and two RBI, Luke Roewe a single and two RBI and Paxton Coulter a single and an RBI.<\/p>\n

Roewe went six innings for the victory on the mound. He gave up three runs on five hits, four walks and struck out five.<\/p>\n

In other first round games, Joliet St. Raymond blanked Springfield St. Agnes, 13-0, Lexington won over Paris Crestwood 9-2 and Peoria Limestone Walters downed Liberty 5-0.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony then really went to work offensively, outhitting Peoria Limestone Walters by a 16-9 count for a 5-3 victory in 10 innings.<\/p>\n

The Bullpups held a 2-1 opening inning lead but Walters tied in the bottom of the fourth and took a 3-2 lead in the fifth.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony came back to tie the score in the seventh and sent the game into extra innings, finishing out winning with two runs in the 10th.<\/p>\n

Parker Phillips ended with two singles, a triple and two RBI. Schumacher had three singles, Vineyard two singles and three RBI, Roewe three singles and Paxton Coulter two singles.<\/p>\n

Schumacher came on in the sixth and went five innings on the mound, giving up one hit, one walk and striking out five for the win on the mound.<\/p>\n

In the other semifinal round contest, Lexington downed Joliet St. Raymond, 9-3.<\/p>\n

In the championship game, St. Anthony was an 8-1 winner over Lexington.<\/p>\n

The Bullpups held a 3-0 lead in the second inning then had a five-run fifth. Lexington tallied its lone run in the sixth.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony finished with 10 hits led by Coulter with a single, double and an RBI, Vineyard with a double and three RBI, Phillips with two singles and an RBI and Having with two singles. Kolin Kiefer added two RBI and Eli Bales an RBI.<\/p>\n

Phillips was the winning pitcher. He came on in relief and went 6.1 innings allowing one run on five hits, one walk and striking out nine.<\/p>\n

The Bullpups finished the season with a 16-4 record.<\/p>\n

The third place game went to Joliet St. Raymond over Peoria Limestone Walters, 10-3.<\/p>\n

Class 2A State Tournament<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teutopolis was competing in the Class 2A State Tournament and unfortunately fell in its opening contest, 6-3 to Peru Parkside.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead but Parkside came back with three runs in the second and one in the third to lead 4-1. T-town rallied with two runs in the top of the fifth but Parkside scored two runs in the bottom of the frame.<\/p>\n

The Shoes were led in hitting by Connor Althoff with two singles and Myles Hoene with an RBI.<\/p>\n

In other opening round games, Washington won over Springfield Christian 11-1, Kankakee Bishop McNamara edged St. Joseph 4-3 and Stronghurst West Central defeated Staunton 5-3.<\/p>\n

In the semifinals, Washington defeated Kankakee Bishop McNamara 11-6 and Peru Parkside downed Stronghurst West Central 4-1.<\/p>\n

The third place contest went to Kankakee Bishop McNamara over Stronghurst West Central 6-1. The championship was won by Washington over Peru Parkside, 4-3.<\/p>\n

Class 2A State Tournament<\/strong><\/p>\n
