Dougherty, 57, of Effingham, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at HSHS St. Anthony\u2019s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, surrounded by his family and friends, after a valiant fight with cancer.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Drew was born\u00a0on\u00a0March 15, 1968,\u00a0in\u00a0North\u00a0Kingstown, Rhode Island, to\u00a0Darwin and Lue (Rentschler) Dougherty.He\u00a0grew up in Effingham and\u00a0graduated\u00a0with the\u00a0St. Anthony High School\u00a0class of\u00a01986.\u00a0His career took him to Cleveland, where he spent many years working\u00a0as an IT specialist at\u00a0Sherwin-Williams\u2019\u00a0world headquarters,\u00a0a position that allowed him to travel the world.\u00a0Drew\u2019s path brought\u00a0him back to Effingham where he reconnected with the people and community he loved most.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Drew had a lasting impact on everyone who knew him,\u00a0and will be\u00a0remembered for his loyalty, compassion,\u00a0and joyful spirit. His presence\u00a0lit up any room, and he\u00a0always\u00a0brought a smile to the faces around him.\u00a0He was fiercely\u00a0dedicated to his family and friends, never hesitated to drop everything to help someone in need, and made a point to celebrate the accomplishments of others, no matter how big or small. Intelligent and curious, he found joy in woodworking, puzzles, and cheering on the\u00a0Fighting\u00a0Illini.\u00a0Many a friend has\u00a0received a beautiful handmade wooden box from Drew.\u00a0He had a genuine way of taking an interest in everyone\u2019s life, no matter how near or far, and always showed up for those he loved. His dog, Loki, was a constant companion, and together they brought even more warmth to those around them.\u00a0His compassion, smile, and love will be missed by\u00a0anyone\u00a0who was\u00a0fortunate\u00a0enough to know him.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Drew was preceded in death by his parents.\u00a0Drew\u00a0is survived by,\u00a0and\u00a0will be lovingly remembered by his brother, Darin,\u00a0and\u00a0Darin\u2019s\u00a0wife, Christina,\u00a0along with\u00a0his cherished niece\u00a0and nephew, Emma\u00a0and\u00a0Will, all of Wellesley, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 4:00\u00a0to 7:00 p.m. at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. A private graveside service will be held, with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The family thanks the professionals\u00a0at St. Anthony\u2019s\u00a0Memorial\u00a0Hospital, and specifically the staff on the 4th floor,\u00a0for their dedication and thoughtful, loving\u00a0care for Drew.\u00a0In\u00a0lieu of flowers and in\u00a0honor of Drew\u2019s deep love for animals and live music,\u00a0memorial contributions may be made\u00a0to\u00a0EARS (Effingham Animal Rescue and Sanctuary),or\u00a0Poss Music Works.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Drew D.
