Effingham Sacred Heart opened Class 1A Baseball Regional action by trouncing Palestine, 18-0 in three innings Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Shamrocks ran out to an 11-0 opening inning lead then added on seven more in the second.<\/p>\n

Sacred Heart had 11 hits and Palestine finished with seven errors.<\/p>\n

Gabe Traub led the Shamrocks on the mound and hitting. Traub went an inning, giving up one walk and striking out one.<\/p>\n

Offensively he went three-for-three with two singles, a double and four RBI.<\/p>\n

Jackson LaSarge had a triple and two RBI while Lucas McDevitt added two singles and an RBI. Logan Schoenhoff and Bryce Hayes finished with a single and two RBI each. Chris Kenter, Reuben Jansen and Colton Mette had a single and an RBI each.<\/p>\n

In the opening game, Neoga handed Okaw Valley a 7-2 loss behind an 11-hit attack.<\/p>\n

Neoga edged ahead 1-0 in the third but Okaw Valley moved into a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth. Neoga then tied the score in the bottom of the fifth and broke the game open with a five-run sixth.<\/p>\n

Baylor Matusas and Bentley Bright had big offensive games. Matusas had two doubles, a triple and three RBI while Bright had three singles, a double and three RBI.<\/p>\n

Neoga will now face Effingham St. Anthony Saturday at 9 a.m.<\/p>\n

In the second contest, Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City beat Sigel St. Michael 10-0.<\/p>\n

Brody Cox earned the win on the mound. He surrendered only two hits and no runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking none.<\/p>\n

The Bobcats scored eight runs in the first inning and answered with another two in the fifth inning to cement the 10-0 win.<\/p>\n

Cox also went two-for-three with three runs scored and two stolen bases. He had two singles.<\/p>\n

Tyce Kircher finished with a single, double and three RBI while Curtis Bethel had a single, double and two RBI. Luke Roadmarel finished with a double and an RBI.\u00a0 Tryston Brown and Hank Shields had a single and an RBI each.<\/p>\n

St. Michael was led by Walk with two doubles.<\/p>\n

Sacred Heart and Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday in second round play. Effingham St. Anthony and the winner of the Neoga vs.\u00a0 Findlay Okaw Valley game will open the morning at 9 a.m. The winners will advance to the championship game September 17.<\/p>\n

Altamont and North Clay advanced from first round play Thursday.<\/p>\n

Altamont was an easy winner over Newton St. Thomas, 13-3.<\/p>\n

In the second game, North Clay pounded Oblong, 16-2.<\/p>\n

Altamont will now meet Dieterich at 9 a.m. Saturday while North Clay will take on Altamont Lutheran at 11:30.<\/p>\n

The winners of those two Saturday games will meet Wednesday, September 17 for the regional championship.<\/p>\n

Class 2A Teutopolis Regional<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teutopolis advanced in its own regional with a 9-1 victory over South Central Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead then had three-run innings in the third and fourth and one in the fifth.<\/p>\n

T-town had eight hits led by Maddux Pals with a single, double and three RBI and Brock Witges with a single, double and an RBI. Kason Meyer added an RBI.<\/p>\n

Kaleb Buenker went four innings on the mound for the win. He gave up one run on three hits, walked three and struck out four.<\/p>\n

Pals came in to toss an inning with two strikeouts and Owen Wermert finished out the final two innings with two walks and two strikeouts.<\/p>\n

South Central was led by J. Smith with a single and an RBI.<\/p>\n

Brownstown\/St. Elmo was an 8-4 winner over Shelbyville Moulton in the second game.<\/p>\n

T-town faces Stewardson-Strasburg at 10 a.m. Saturday while Brownstown\/St. Elmo will take on Cumberland at noon.<\/p>\n

The winners will advance to the championship game Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

Class 2A Teutopolis Regional<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jasper County advanced in the Casey-Westfield Regional.<\/p>\n

The third seed blanked Kansas by an 8-0 count Thursday.<\/p>\n

In other games, Casey-Westfield edged Paris Mayo 8-7 and Marshall bounced Red Hill (Bridgeport), 13-1.<\/p>\n

Saturday’s games feature Lawrenceville Parkview against Casey-Westfield at 10 a.m. and Jasper County facing Marshall at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n

The winners will advance to the title contest Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 4:15 p.m.<\/p>\n

Class 3A Effingham Regional<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mattoon and Robinson Nuttall were winners in opening round play of the\u00a0 Effingham Regional Thursday.<\/p>\n

Mattoon downed Greenville, 8-1 while Robinson Nuttall trounced Charleston 15-3.<\/p>\n

Mattoon advances to meet top-seeded\u00a0 Effingham at 10 a.m. Saturday while Robinson Nuttall will face Vandalia at noon.<\/p>\n
