OLNEY — Effingham St. Anthony went 4-1 to capture the championship at the Olney Classic Volleyball Tournament Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs defeated Olney (B), 25-20, 25-17, Mount Carmel 21-25, 25-19, 15-11, Hinsdale South 25-13, 25-10 and Fairfield 25-22, 25-20. Edwards County won over St. Anthony 18-25, 25-19, 17-15.<\/p>\n

Madelyn Gilmore and Cara Hatton were named to the All-Tournament Team.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs are now 5-2 on the season and return to action Tuesday at Neoga.<\/p>\n

Newton lost both matches in pool play. They fell to Fairfield 25-27, 25-23, 15-11 and lost to Tolono Unity 22-25, 25-19, 15-10.<\/p>\n

In the Bronze Flight, Newton claimed all three victories, winning against Hutsonville\/Palestine, 25-13, 25-18, Olney B 25-16, 25-15 and Olney A 25-19, 25-20.<\/p>\n

Izzy Meinhart made the All-Tournament Team.<\/p>\n

Newton is now 6-5 on the season.<\/p>\n

At Altamont<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nokomis captured the championship of the Altamont Volleyball Tournament Saturday.<\/p>\n

Nokomis finished first followed by Altamont second, Greenville third and Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran fourth.<\/p>\n

Another area team competing was Cumberland. The Pirates lost to Vandalia, 21-17, 21-16, fell to Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran, 21-18, 24-22, then lost to Heritage 27-29, 25-22, 15-13. The Pirates won over Vandalia, 25-22, 26-24.<\/p>\n

Other teams competing were Heritage, Cerro Gordo\/Bement and Vandalia.<\/p>\n

Altamont split with Greenville, 14-21, 21-6. and Cerro Gordo\/Bement 21-15, 9-21. Altamont defeated Heritage 21-15, 21-19 and Christ Our Rock Lutheran, 25-14, 28-26.<\/p>\n

Altamont then lost to Nokomis, 20-25, 25-23, 15-9.<\/p>\n

At Sullivan<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teutopolis competed in the Sullivan Tournament during the weekend and finished second.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes won over Meridian 25-13, 25-14, defeated Maroa-Forsyth 25-23, 25-20 and lost to Warrensburg-Latham in the championship match, 22-25, 25-21, 25-23.<\/p>\n

“We played really well overall,” said Coach Tim Mills. “After starting the season by playing three sets in each of our first five matches, we finally managed to win a couple matches in only two sets. We lost to Warrensburg-Latham in the championship match. They are 9-1 on the season so they are a very good team.<\/p>\n

“Kaylie Jordan was selected to the All-Tournament Team.”<\/p>\n

The Shoes return to action Tuesday, playing host to Sullivan.<\/p>\n

Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City competed. Sullivan won over CHBC 25-14, 23-25, 15-13. CHBC then fell to Warrensburg-Latham, 25-14, 25-27. The Bobcats then lost to Meridian 20-25, 25-14, 15-6.<\/p>\n
