The agreement is necessary for $3 million to be utilized for the westerly extension from US Route 45. The extension will open up a large area for economic development opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>The Council also passed a resolution establishing a truck route for the McGrath Avenue extension project in the Effingham Business Park. The McGrath project is connected to an expansion project for Stevens Industries.<\/p>\n<p>Council members heard from businessman Mark Mayhood on the proposed imposition of a 1% city sales tax. Mayhood said the Council needs to take the action, but encouraged consideration of local schools in the equation.
