The Effingham Junior High School softball team continues to roll along. The 10th victim was Paris Crestwood Thursday as the Mustangs came through with a run in the bottom of the eighth to pull out a 5-4 victory.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs held a 1-0 opening inning lead but Crestwood tied in the second and moved into a 3-1 lead in the fourth and led 4-2 in the fifth. Effingham came back with two in the bottom of the seventh to knot the score at 4-4 then won in the eighth.<\/p>\n

Anna Gouchenouer and Cloie Bailey provided the big hits. Gouchenouer had a single double, home run and two RBI while Bailey had a double and triple. Liv Lauritzen contribute two singles and drove in two runs.<\/p>\n

Kendyl Smith came on in the sixth inning to throw a no-hitter with one walk while striking out five to hold the Eagles.<\/p>\n

Sophia Wiedman went five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, two walks while striking out 10.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs are now 10-0 on the season and will be back in action Saturday at the Teutopolis Round Robin facing T-town at 10 a.m. and Flora at 11:30.<\/p>\n

At Effingham<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cumberland came calling and edged Windsor\/Stewardson-Strasburg 4-3 in eight innings Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Hatchets moved into a 1-0 opening inning lead. Cumberland pushed ahead with two in the top of the third but Windsor\/Stew-Stras came back with two in the bottom of the fifth.<\/p>\n

Cumberland then tied in the seventh and the game went into the eighth where the Raiders won.<\/p>\n

Windsor\/Stew-Stras was led by Reese Stigers with a single and double, Miranda Corrie with a double and an RBI and Gracyn Montgomery with a double.<\/p>\n

The Falcons finished with 17 hits and were aided by five Patoka errors.<\/p>\n

Lexy Garrett had two singles, two doubles and drove in three runs while Claire Chasteen and Alexa Gile had two singles, a double and three RBI each, Rylan Williams had a single, triple and three RBI and Jayda Neilson two double and two RBI.<\/p>\n

Williams picked up the pitching win. She went 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, three walks and striking out five.<\/p>\n

St. Elmo\/Brownstown claimed a 14-7 victory over North Clay Thursday.<\/p>\n

SEB trailed North Clay by a 4-1 count after the opening inning. The Eagles came back within 4-3 in the fourth inning then moved into an 8-4 lead in the top of the fifth and tacked on four more in the sixth and two in the seventh.<\/p>\n

The winners had eight hits led by Ella Lach with a single and double while N. Feller had a double and two RBI. Kimber Tritt had a single and three RBI, Macie Abendroth two singles. Parker Haslett and Rylin Pruett had a single and an RBI each and Mabry Booher an RBI.<\/p>\n

North Clay was led by Gabby Blair with a single, double and an RBI and Harper Casolari, Hadley Mitchel and Finley Jones with a single and an RBI each.<\/p>\n

St. John’s edged out to a 2-0 opening inning lead and added on two in the third, one in the fifth, six in the sixth and two in the seventh.<\/p>\n

Neoga had three hits, singles by Nora Hartke, Ellie Plummer and Kelly Will. Hartke and Plummer had an RBI each while Kinzie Bell also had an RBI.<\/p>\n
