SPRINGFIELD — Harness racing got underway at the Illinois State Fair Friday.<\/p>\n

Fox Valley Barbie, owned by Altamont’s Penny White, captured a division of the Illinois Department of Agriculture Two-Year-Old Fillies Pace.<\/p>\n

Fox Valley Barbie, with driver Wyatt Avenatti, went wire-to-wire, winning by almost a dozen lengths in 1:56.4.<\/p>\n

The victory was the first at the State Fair for White. Fox Valley Barbie is also owned by Bart Seales and trainer Kevin Miller.<\/p>\n

Another area name, Kyle Husted, claimed the 10th race of the day, the Three-Year-Old Colts & Geldings Pace.<\/p>\n

Behind Peace Star, the pair went the distance in 1:53.3. Husted also trained Behind Peace Star and is the owner along with John Schwarz Jr. and Mark Winship.<\/p>\n

Casey Leonard was a winner behind three horses. Leonard won the Two-Year-Old Fillies Trot with Lous Madison. The pair went the distance in 2:00.1.<\/p>\n

Leonard made it back-to-back wins behind Apple Patootie in the Two-Year-Old Fillies Pace. Leonard guided Apple Patootie to the win in 1:56.<\/p>\n

The final win came in Race 12, the Three-Year-Old Fillies Pace.<\/p>\n

Two Bean Dream won with Leonard in 1:52.2.<\/p>\n

Racing continues today with post time at 11 a.m. There will be 13 races. Saturday’s races begin at 10:15 a.m. with two races, 11 a.m. with 13 races and 3:15 p.m. with two races.<\/p>\n
