Stewardson-Strasburg will be plaing for the Class 7-2A Stae Tournament champoinship after winning Saturday.<\/em><\/p>\n

Stewardson-Strasburg will be playing for the Class 7-2A State Tournament boys basketball championship after picking up two victories Saturday at Macon Meridian High School.<\/p>\n

Stew-Stras opened its stay at the State Tourney with a 42-27 win over Morrisonville. Stew-Stras held a 20-15 hafltime lead then finished strong with a 16-9 final quarter.<\/p>\n

Adam Pruemer led the way with 19 points while Johnny Richter tallied 11.<\/p>\n

In other first round games, Carthage defeated Decatur Robertson 42-31, Normal Metcalf won over Mossville 46-27 and Riverdale Washington downed McNabb Putnam County 28-17.<\/p>\n

Stew-Stras then advanced to take on Carthage and was a 37-26 winner. Stew-Stras held a 16-12 halftime lead then had a 13-7 third quarter run.<\/p>\n

Pruemer again led the way in scoring with 22 points. Jacob Duncan added seven points.<\/p>\n

In the other contest, Normal Metcalf beat Riverdale Washington 28-19.<\/p>\n

Carthage (23-3) will face Riverdale Washington (28-19) at 6 p.m. Thursday for third place.<\/p>\n

Stew-Stras then will meet Normal Metcalf at 7:30 p.m. for the state championship.\u00a0 Stew-Stras is 23-1 on the season while Normal Metcalf is 21-4.<\/p>\n

Class 7-1A State Tournament<\/strong><\/p>\n

Effingham Sacred Heart claimed its first round victory over Carrollton St. John, 47-31 at the Class 7-1A State Tournament at Normal Kingsley Juniior High School Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Shamrocks defeated Carrollton st. John, 47-31. They edged out to a 7-4 opening quarter lead but St. John came back to tie the score at 13-13 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Sacred Heart then had a strong third quarter, outscoring St. John 18-9 and finished with a 16-9 final quarter.<\/p>\n

Three players scored in double figures for the Shamrocks. Gabe Traub led the way with 21 points on nine field goals and three of five at the line. Lucas McDevitt added 12 and Brycer Hayes 10.<\/p>\n

In other first round contests, Pontiac St. Mary’s edged Kewanee Visitation 38-34, Champaign Holy Cross defeated Ford Heights Cottage Grove UGC 41-28 and Lincoln West Lincoln Broadwell defeated Peoria St. Jude, 45-25.<\/p>\n

Sacred Heart fell to Lincoln West Lincoln Broadwell, 82-33.<\/p>\n

Lincoln West put this game away in the opening quarter with a 35-2 run. Kruz Froebe finished with 37.<\/p>\n

The Shamrocks were led by Hayes with 19 points while Jansen added 14 and McDevitt 12.<\/p>\n

Champaign Holy Cross was a 40-23 winner over Pontiac St. Mary’s in the other semifinal game.<\/p>\n

Sacred Heart (20-4) will now meet Pontiac St. Mary’s (24-5) at 6 p.m. Thursday for third place.<\/p>\n

Champaign Holy Cross (25-2) faces Lincoln West Lincoln Broadwell (20-5) at 7:30 p.m. for the championship.<\/p>\n

Class 7-3A State Tournament<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teutopolis fell In opening round play of the Class 7-3A State Tournament at El Paso-Gridley High School Saturday.<\/p>\n

Lansing Heritage was a 38-29 winner over the Wooden Shoes.<\/p>\n

The two teams were tied at 10-10 after the first quarter. Heritage then moved into a 20-14 halftime lead.<\/p>\n

Heritage came out with an 11-6 third quarter to lead 31-20. T-town had a 9-7 final quarter but couldn’t make up the second and third quarter runs by Heritage.<\/p>\n

Mason Giles led the Shoies with nine points while Kason Meyer added eight. The Shoes end the season with a 26-3 record.<\/p>\n

In other first round games, Eureka downed LaGrange Highlands 53-25, East St. Louis Lincoln won over Monticello 53-42 and Metamora edged Williamsville 42-39.<\/p>\n

In the senifinals, Eureka beat East St. Louis Llncoln 43-30 and Metamora downed Lansing Heritage 51-35.<\/p>\n

East St. Louis Lincoln and Lansing Heritage meet Thursday at 6 p.m. for third place while Eureka and Metamora square off at 7:30 for the championship.<\/p>\n
