{"id":13383,"date":"2025-07-01T15:15:18","date_gmt":"2025-07-01T20:15:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/?p=13383"},"modified":"2025-07-01T15:15:31","modified_gmt":"2025-07-01T20:15:31","slug":"eiu-has-new-student-trustee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/local-news\/13383-eiu-has-new-student-trustee\/","title":{"rendered":"EIU Has New Student Trustee"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pdfprnt-buttons pdfprnt-buttons-post pdfprnt-top-right\"><a href=\"javascript: window.print()\" class=\"pdfprnt-button pdfprnt-button-print\" target=\"_self\" ><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/wp-content\/plugins\/pdf-print\/images\/print.png\" alt=\"image_print\" title=\"Print Content\" \/><span class=\"pdfprnt-button-title pdfprnt-button-print-title\">Print<\/span><\/a><\/div><p>Eastern Illinois University has a new student trustee as of today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would encourage prospective students to attend Eastern Illinois University because the campus is a community, and everyone is so welcoming,\u201d said Madison Veatch, a senior Political Science major focused on civic and nonprofit leadership and a 2022 graduate of Charleston High School. \u201cBeing from Charleston, I knew since I was in high school that I wanted to attend EIU for these reasons&#8230;and I\u2019m proud to have been elected to serve as EIU\u2019s student trustee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Veatch will earn a bachelor of science degree this month. This fall, she will begin a graduate program at EIU in Public Administration &amp; Public Policy, and also work toward earning certificates in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and public planning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope to use my academic credentials to work in Illinois local or state government or politics after finishing my master\u2019s degree,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>With regard to her new role as trustee, Veatch says she is interested in increasing the level of transparency between the Board of Trustees, Student Government leadership, and the student body.<\/p>\n<p>In her spare time, Veatch enjoys reading and spend time with her friends.
