The National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament continued Monday at Brownstown.<\/p>\n

Effingham Sacred Heart downed Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City, 43-37.<\/p>\n

CHBC held a 10-6 opening quarter lead. The Shamrocks came back with a 14-7 second quarter to lead 20-17 at halftime. Both teams tallied 11 points in the third quarter and Sacred Heart finished out with a 12-9 final period.<\/p>\n

Kaisyn Calame scored 19 points to lead the winners. Calame hit eight field goals, one a three-pointer, and was two of three at the line. Zach Bennett chipped in with six.<\/p>\n

Sacred Heart was led by Gabe Traub with 20 on eight field goals and four of six at the line, and Bryce Hayes with 10.<\/p>\n

St. Elmo\/Brownstown defeated Altamont, 39-30.<\/p>\n

Sacred Heart and St. Elmo\/Brownstown will now meet Thursday at 5:30 p.m. for the consolation championship. <\/p>\n

Tonight’s games include Sigel St. Michael against South Central at 6:15 p.m. and Stewardson-Strasburg facing North Clay at 7:30. The winners advance to the championship game Thursday at 8 p.m. while the losers will play for third place at 6:45 p.m.<\/p>\n

At Greenville<\/strong><\/p>\n

Effingham St. Anthony handed Hillsboro a 55-15 loss in the Greenville Eighth-Grade Tournament Monday evening.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs edged out to an 11-8 opening quarter lead as C. Bierman scored seven points. The lead went to 32-10 at halftime. B. Verdeyen connected on four baskets for eight points while C. Hoene hit two three-pointers and a regular basket, also for eight in the quarter.<\/p>\n

Hillsboro came back with a 15-8 third quarter but still trailed 40-15 going into the final period.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony ended with two players in double figures and seven scoring in the contest. B. Verdeyen led the way with seven field goals for 14 points. C . Bierman added 11.<\/p>\n

In other games, Salem defeated Aviston 38-25, Staunton defeated Carlinville 51-12 and Greenville defeated Piasa 48-27.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony improved to 19-2 on the season and will be back in action in the Greenville Tournament Thursday against Salem at 6 p.m. in winner bracket play. In the other winner bracket contest, Staunton meets Greenville at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

In Tuesday games in consolation bracket play, Hillsboro meets Aviston at 6 p.m. followed by Carlinville against Piasa at 7.<\/p>\n
