The National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament got underway Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n

In Friday play, Altamont was a 47-30 winner over Neoga. Altamont ripped out to a 17-0 opening quarter lead and never looked back.<\/p>\n

Logue tallied 17 for the winners while Veteto added eight.<\/p>\n

Neoga was led by Brody Strobl with 10 and Benji Strobl with eight.<\/p>\n

In the second contest Friday, Effingham Sacred Heart won over Dieterich, no score listed<\/p>\n

North Clay was a 56-22 winner over Windsor.<\/p>\n

In Saturday play, the only scores listed were Stewardson-Strasburg over Effingham Sacred Heart 46-38 and North Clay over Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City 56-48.<\/p>\n

Sacred Heart ripped out to an 11-1 opening quarter lead and led 23-13 at halftime. But Stew-Stras came back with a 19-7 third period and never looked back.<\/p>\n

Spannagel led the winners with 15 points while Slifer added 11.<\/p>\n

Sacred Heart was led by Traub with 16. Hayes and McDevitt had nine each.<\/p>\n

At Effingham<\/strong><\/p>\n

Effingham won both contests over Casey-Westfield in Saturday play.<\/p>\n

The seventh-grade squad edged Casey-Westfield 35-33.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs took an 8-5 opening quarter lead and led 17-12 at halftime. They pushed that to 27-19 going into the final quarter. Casey-Westfield made a comeback bid with a 14-8 run only to fall short.<\/p>\n

Deek Thompson led the winners with 12 points while Jared Klingler added eight.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade contest, Effingham won 46-43. The Mustangs held a 19-10 opening quarter lead and led 28-23 at halftime. Casey-Westfield came back with a 14-9 third quarter run to knot the score at 37-37.<\/p>\n

Then in the final period, Effingham had a 9-6 tally for the victory.<\/p>\n

Dagg Thompson scored 18 points while Joel Flack added 15 for the winners.<\/p>\n

At Effingham<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade game, 49-20, taking a 24-10 halftime lead.<\/p>\n

Meyer scored 11 points to lead T-town while Giles added eight.<\/p>\n

Jasper County was led by Grant Frichtl with seven.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade game, T-town was a 45-19 winner. The Shoes ripped out to a 33-8 halftime lead.<\/p>\n

Niemerg led T-town with 15 points while S. Probst added 13.<\/p>\n

Jasper County was led by Hank Huber with five.<\/p>\n
