Effingham High School played host to Mount Zion and fell to the Braves, 58-24 in an Apollo Conference matchup Saturday in boys basketball.<\/p>\n

The Braves edged out to a 12-7 opening quarter lead then went on a run, outscornig the Hearts 19-7 to lead 31-14 at halftime.<\/p>\n

It was downhill from there, as Mount Zion took a 22-5 third quarter run to lead 53-19 going into the final quarter.<\/p>\n

The Braves were led by three players in double figures. Lyncoln Koester led the way with 13 points while JC Anderson added 11 and Jacob Harvey 10.<\/p>\n

EHS was led by Nolan Fearday and Brady McDaniel with six points each.<\/p>\n

At Effingham<\/strong><\/p>\n

Warrensburg-Latham came calling and picked up a 47-40 victory over Teutopolis in Saturday play.<\/p>\n

The Cardinal took a 16-5 opening quarter lead but T-town came back with an 8-2 second period run to pull within 18-13 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Warrensburg-Latham then had a 13-10 third quarter. T-town again attempted to come back with a 17-1 final quarter only to fall short.<\/p>\n

Henry Thompson and Drew Hoene led the Shoes with eight points each. Thompson hit two three-pointers and was two of two at the line while Hoene hit two baskets, one a three-pointer and was one of four at the line.<\/p>\n

In junior varsity action, T-town was a 58-20 winner. Isaac McWhorter finished with 19 points while Jason Kreke added 12.<\/p>\n

South Central tallied a 45-38 victory over Patoka in non-conference action Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Cougars edged out to an 11-9 opening quarter lead as Westin Neilson hit two three-pointers.<\/p>\n

South Central then had a 13-4 second period run to lead 24-13 at halftime. Neilson scored seven points while Kage Hiestand put in a couple of baskets.<\/p>\n

The Cougars led 41-26 going into the final quarter.<\/p>\n

Neilson led the way with six baskets, four from three-point range for 16 points. Jalen Smith chipped in with 10.<\/p>\n

CHBC stayed close in that opening half but OPH had a 21-15 second half.<\/p>\n

Remington Howell was the lone Bobcat player in double figures with 10 on two field goals, one a three-pointer and five of eight at the line.<\/p>\n

CHBC finished with 12 turnovers and committed 21 fouls.<\/p>\n

Wilson led the winners with 18 points while Cessna added 14.<\/p>\n

Newton was led by Kody Bergbower with 13 on five field goals,one a three-pointer, and two of two at the line. He also led in rebounds with eight. Hayden Mulvey added 10 points and six rebounds.<\/p>\n

The Eagles are now 5-12 on the season and will be back in action Tuesday at Mount Carmel.<\/p>\n
