Effingham St. Anthony picked up two victories over Rantoul St. Malachy in junior high boys basketball Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

The Bullpups edged St. Malachy 29-26 in seventh-grade play. The score was tied at 15-15 at halftime before St. Anthony moved ahead 23-21 going into the final quarter then had a 6-5 run for the victory.<\/p>\n

P. Phillips led the way for St. Anthony with 16 points.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade competition, St. Anthony won 46-31. The Bullpups trailed St. Malachy 17-16 at halftime then went on a 30-13 second half run.<\/p>\n

C. Hoene led the way for St. Anthony with 12 points while B. Verdeyen added 11.<\/p>\n

At Sacred Heart<\/strong><\/p>\n

Effingham Sacred Heart picked up two wins over visiting Neoga Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

The Shamrocks won the seventh-grade contest, 31-17. Sacred Heart broke a 4-4 opening quarter tie with a 12-2 second period and finished out with a 10-4 final quarter.<\/p>\n

Lucas McDevitt and Gabe Traub scored eight points each for the Shamrocks.<\/p>\n

Neoga was led by Baylor Matusas with nine.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade game, Neoga held a 13-11 halftime lead but Sacred Heart came back with a 10-5 third quarter and went on for a 27-23 victory.<\/p>\n

Mason Karolewicz scored 10 to lead the winners.<\/p>\n

Neoga was led by Brody Strobl with 15.<\/p>\n

Sacred Heart is back in action tonight in the National Trail Conference Tournament meeting Dieterich at 6:45 p.m.<\/p>\n

Dieterich and Newton St. Thomas spit victories Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

St. Thomas claimed the seventh-grade game by a 28-15 tally. St. Thomas held a 9-2 opening quarter lead as Geir scored seven of his team’s nine points.<\/p>\n

St. Thomas had a 17-10 second half.<\/p>\n

Geir led the way with 20 points on eight field goals and four of seven at the line.<\/p>\n

Dieterich trailed St. Thomas 11-9 after the opening quarter but held a 17-13 halftime lead. Dieterich led 28-24 going into the final quarter and had an 11-5 final period run for the victory.<\/p>\n

McQueen led with 14 points while Niemerg added 10 for the winners.<\/p>\n

St. Thomas was led by G. Bierman with 13 and Michl with 10.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade encounter 36-14. T-town held a 20-10 halftime lead. Mason Giles led nine players in scoring with eight points.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town ripped out to a 28-11 halftime lead and went on for a 62-18 win.<\/p>\n

Kale Goeckner led with 19 points while Sammy Probst added 16.<\/p>\n

T-town travels to Newton Saturday to face Jasper County.<\/p>\n

The Bobcats stepped out to a 15-3 opening quarter lead in seventh-grade play and went on for a 50-24 win.<\/p>\n

Lane Reed scored 27 to lead the winners.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade action, CHBC won 47-10. The Bobcats held a 13-0 opening quarter lead and led 26-4 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Three players hit double digits. Lyric Davis led the way with 18 points while Zach Bennett added 13 and Kaisyn Calame 12.<\/p>\n

Stewardson-Strasburg downed Windsor in junior high action Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

The seventh-grade contest went to Stew-Stras by a 40-4 count. Stew-Stras ran out to a 17-0 opening quarter lead and had an 11-0 third period run.<\/p>\n

Ten players scored for the winners. Johnny Richter led the way with 10 points as the team improved to 17-1 on the season and is 10-0 in the National Trail Conference.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade play, Stew-Stras won 46-34, again running out to a big first quarter lead, 14-3.<\/p>\n

Ben Hille led with 18 points as nine players scored. Stew-Stras improved to 13-4 on the season and is 9-1 in the NTC.<\/p>\n

Stew-Stras will be back in action Saturday in the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Tournament at Brownstown.<\/p>\n
