Paris High School came calling and captured a 56-48 victory over Effingham in overtime in girls high school basketball competition Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n

The Hearts edged out to a 13-11 opening quarter lead as Alyssa Martin connected on five of six free throws and Sidney Donaldson hit two baskets.<\/p>\n

The Tigers came back within 25-24 at halftime as Kenzie Englum and Clark put in a three-pointer each and Kailey Young added an old-fashioned three-point play with a field goal and free throw.<\/p>\n

Effingham edged ahead by two at the end of the third quarter with a 13-12 tally. Tessa Raddatz hit a three-pointer and a regular basket for five points.<\/p>\n

But the Hearts scored only six points in the final period on baskets by Bella Austin and Averie Wolfe and free throws by Martin.<\/p>\n

Paris tallied eight  as Gracie Watson hit a three-pointer and a free throw and Macy Bicknell two baskets and tied the score at 44-44.<\/p>\n

In the overtime, Young hit for six points on a three-pointer and three free throws while Edwards connected for five, on a three-pointer and two free throws and the Tigers pulled out the victory.<\/p>\n

Young finished with 15 points for Paris while Bicknell added 14.<\/p>\n

The Hearts were led by Martin with 13 on two field goals and nine of 10 at the line and Wolfe with 10.<\/p>\n

In junior varsity play, Paris also was a winner by a 47-38 count.<\/p>\n

Effingham was led by McKenzie Love with 13 and Drew Weis with 10.<\/p>\n
