ffingham St. Anthony captured two victories over Mount Zion in junior high boys basketball Monday evening.<\/p>\n

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade encounter, 30-28. Mount Zion stepped out to an 8-2 opening quarter lead and led 16-15 at halftime.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony came back with a 9-8 third quarter run to tie the score at 24-24 then had a 6-4 final quarter for the two-point victory.<\/p>\n

R. Schumacher led the Bullpups with 10 points.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade game, St. Anthony was a 35-29 winner.<\/p>\n

The Bullpups trailed 9-8 after the opening quarter but moved into a 15-13 halftime lead then had a 20-16 second half.<\/p>\n

B. Verdeyen scored 14 points for the winners while C. Bierman added 10.<\/p>\n

In the seventh-grade game, Effingham moved into a 13-9 opening quarter lead and led 20-18 at halftime. Taylorville came back with a 15-10 second half for the 33-30 win.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs were led by Calvin Beck with eight points and Deek Thompson with seven.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade play, Taylorville took the early 9-4 lead and led 14-12 halftime lead. Taylorville came back with a 20-11 second half.<\/p>\n

Effingham was led in scoring by Dagg Thompson with seven and Joel Flack with six.<\/p>\n

Mason Giles led the way with 10 points while Louie Niebrugge added eight.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town ran out to a 24-5 first quarter lead and never looked back in a 65-24 win.<\/p>\n

Sam Probst tallied 15 points while Kale Goeckner added 10 for the Shoes.<\/p>\n

Stew-Stras handily won the seventh-grade game, 34-4 to improve to 16-1 on the season overall and 9-0 in the National Trail Conference<\/p>\n

Friese scored 10 points for the winners.<\/p>\n

Dieterich was led by Lustig and Goeckner with two each.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade game, Stew-Stras took a 24-13 halftime lead and had a 17-5 third quarter run in a 50-25 win.<\/p>\n

Vonderheide led with 13 points while Spannagel added 11 for the winners who improved to 12-4 overall and 8-1 in the NTC.<\/p>\n

Dieterich was led by Bierman with eight.<\/p>\n
