OLNEY — Effingham Junior High School claimed two wins over Richland County, Olney in boys basketball action Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest, 56-36. Olney took a 12-7 opeining quarter lead but Effingham moved into a 23-21 halftime lead and then had a 33-15 second half.<\/p>\n

Deek Thompson led the way with 17 points on seven field goals, one a three-pointer and two of four at the line. Also in double figures was Calvin Beck with 11.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade contest, Joel Flack led the Mustangs with 16 points to a 36-21 win over Olney.<\/p>\n

Flack hit six two-pointers, one three-pointer and a free throw. Dagg Thompson chipped in with nine points.<\/p>\n

At Mulberry Grove<\/strong><\/p>\n

Altamont traveled to Mulberry Grove and was a winner in both games Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

The Wildcats claimed the seventh-grade game, 41-34.<\/p>\n

The winners trailed Mulberry Grove 7-3 after the opening quarter and 22-14 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Altamont then had a 21-2 third period run and then held off Mulberry Grove in the final quarter.<\/p>\n

Jack Neu scored 20 points for the winners.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade play, Altamont edged Mulberry Grove, 39-34.<\/p>\n

Mulberry Grove held a 20-13 halftime lead but Altamont came back with a 13-8 third period to pull within 28-26 and then had a 13-6 final period.<\/p>\n

Bannister and Neu scored 11 each for the winners.<\/p>\n

At Cowden<\/strong><\/p>\n

Shelbyville handed Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City two losses Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

Shelbyville was a winner in the seventh-grade contest, 37-35 in overtime<\/p>\n

CHBC took a 14-8 opening quarter lead and led 22-21 at halftime. But Shelbyville came back with an 8-0 third quarter to lead 29-22. CHBC had an 11-4 final quarter to tie the score and send the game into overtime where Shelbyville pulled out the victory.<\/p>\n

Drake Thull led CHBC with 20 points.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade action, Shelbyville was a 40-34 winner. CHBC held a 17-11 halftime lead but Shelbyville came back with a 29-17 second half.<\/p>\n

Kaisyn Calame and Zach Bennett led CHBC with 12 points each.<\/p>\n

At Cowden<\/strong><\/p>\n

North Clay dropped to 5-4 in the National Trail Conference, 6-6 overall.<\/p>\n
