Effingham Sacred Heart and Newton St. Thomas split junior high boys basketball wins Monday evening.<\/p>\n

Sacred Heart was a winner in the seventh-grade contest, 47-18.<\/p>\n

The Shamrocks held a 19-12 halftime lead and had an 18-6 third quarter run.<\/p>\n

Gabe Traub led the way with 25 points while Bryce Hayes added eight.<\/p>\n

St. Thomas was led by Beals and Gier with eight each.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade game, St. Thomas was a 38-31 winner.<\/p>\n

The Shamrocks held a 21-18 halftime lead but St. Thomas came back with an 11-6 third quarter to lead 29-27 and finished with a 9-4 final quarter.<\/p>\n

G. Bierman led with 11 points while Dillon Earnst and Brooks Herman had eight each.<\/p>\n

Sacred Heart was led by Mason Karolewicz with 15.<\/p>\n

At Taylorville<\/strong><\/p>\n

Effingham St. Anthony claimed two victories over Taylorville in Monday evening play.<\/p>\n

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade encounter, 32-23. P. Phillips got St. Anthony off in the right direction with six of the Bullpups 10 points in the opening quarter. St. Anthony then moved ahead by a 25-9 tally at halftime. B. Schultz and E. Bales scored five points each, both hitting a three-pointer and a regular basket.<\/p>\n

Phillips finished withi 12 points to lead the Bullpups.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony edged Taylorville, 42-40.<\/p>\n

 The Bullpups held a 10-8 opening quarter lead but Taylorville came back to lead 24-20 at halftime.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony then had a 12-6 third quarter run and held on for the win.<\/p>\n

Verdeyen scored 15, C. Hoene 12 and C. Bierman 11 for the winners.<\/p>\n

Effingham captured two victories over Pana Sacred Heart Monday evening.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade game easily, 54-17. Effingham took a 34-13 halftime lead.<\/p>\n

Deek Thompson scored 19 for the winners while Calvin Beck added nine.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade action, Effingham was a 53-30 winner. The Mustangs took a 27-16 halftime lead and had a 26-14 second half.<\/p>\n

Joel Flack tallied 21 points on nine field goals, three from three-point range.<\/p>\n

Teutopolis had two very different games but picked up victories in both Monday evening.<\/p>\n

The seventh-grade Wooden Shoes edged Casey-Westfield, 13-11. T-town took a 12-9 opening half lead then scored only one point in the second half.<\/p>\n

Mason Giles tallied 11 for the winners.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade action, T-town had a big scoring contest for a 54-13 win.<\/p>\n

T-town held a 12-3 opening quarter lead and led 33-7 at halftime.<\/p>\n

S. Probst scored 12 for the Shoes.<\/p>\n

At Teutopolis<\/strong><\/p>\n

Windsor\/Stewardson-Strasburg and Sullivan claimed a victory each in Monday evening play.<\/p>\n

Windsor\/Stew-Stras won the seventh-grade game, 42-21 by taking a 26-10 halftime lead and outscoring Sullivan 10-4 in the third quarter.<\/p>\n

Pruemer led with 16 points while Worman added 10 as the seventh-graders remained unbeaten at 14-0.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade play, Sullivan won 50-28.<\/p>\n

Stew-Stras held a 10-6 opening quarter lead but Sullivan moved ahead 16-14 at halftime then had a 34-14 second half.<\/p>\n

Kaufman led Stew-Stras with 11 points as the team dropped to 10-3.<\/p>\n

Stew-Stras is back in action tonight at Altamont.<\/p>\n

Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City was a winner over Altamont Lutheran Interparish in both seventh- and eighth-grade action Monday.<\/p>\n

CHBC won the seventh-grade contest, 37-33. CHBC broke an 8-8 opening quarter tie with a 9-4 second quarter. But Altamont Lutheran came back to move ahead in the third quarter by a 26-25 count. CHBC then had a 12-7 final period run.<\/p>\n

Drake Thull scored 17 for the winners.<\/p>\n

Altamont Lutheran was led by Arend and Grasher with nine each.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade game, CHBC claimed a 40-37 win. Zach Bennett scored 16 for the winners.<\/p>\n

ALIS was led by Hunt with 16 and Pals with 11.<\/p>\n

Neoga captured the seventh-grade contest 24-15. Neoga held a 13-8 halftime lead.<\/p>\n

Baylor Matusas scored nine and Liam Kenworhty eight for the winners.<\/p>\n

Nadolny led Windsor with all 15 points.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade contest, Neoga won 42-38. Neoga held a 36-18 halftime lead. Windsor came back with a 20-16 second half only to fall short.<\/p>\n

Brody Strobl scored 21 and Benji Strobl 14 for the winners.<\/p>\n

Hartman led Windsor with 19 while Briar Rincker added 11.<\/p>\n

Jasper County picked up two victories over Martinsville in Monday evening play.<\/p>\n

Jasper County won the seventh-grade contest 28-5, taking a14-3 halftime lead.<\/p>\n

Maverik Horner led the way with 13 points. Dawson Williams and Alex Keller were the top rebounders. Horner was the top defender and top passer. The team improved to 4-9.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade play, Jasper County edged Martinsvile, 49-47.<\/p>\n

Jasper County led 18-14 at halftime and 35-25 going into the final quarter. Martinsville came back to tie the score at 37-37, sending the game into overtime. In the overtime period, Jasper County had a 12-10 run for the victory.<\/p>\n

Cambell Ulm scored 17 and Branden Emmerich 11 for the winners. Top rebounder was Hank Huber with the top defender Emmerich and top passer Chase Kistner.<\/p>\n

Jasper County improved to 7-6 on the season.<\/p>\n

At Martinsville<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dieterich claimed the seventh-grade contest, 41-14.<\/p>\n

The winners held an 11-4 opening quarter lead as Uthell knocked in three baskets. Niemerg took over in the second period scoring six points as Dieterich led 26-10 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Uthell finished with 16 points in the win on seven field goals, one a three-pointer, and one of two at the line.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade contest, Oblong captured a 52-33 victory.<\/p>\n

Oblong stepped out to a 15-4 opening quarter lead and led 35-11 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Dieterich was led by Goeckner with 10 points.<\/p>\n
