MONTICELLO — Effingham High School will be sending five individuals and a relay team to the Class 2A State Girls Track Meet after competing in the Monticello Sectional Thursday.<\/p>\n

Tolono Unity claimed the team championship with 138 points followed by Mount Zion 115, Taylorville 58.5, Richland County, Olney 52, Effingham 47, Robinson 47, St. Joseph-Ogden 31, Salem 26, Urbana 25, Monticello 22, Paris 21.5, Centralia 20, Charleston 19, Mattoon 18, Decatur Eisenhower 11, Mount Carmel 10 and Decatur MacArthur 9.<\/p>\n

Effingham’s Keagyn Koenig was the champion in the shot put with a throw of 11.59 meters and will head to State. She broke her own school record.<\/p>\n

Camdyn Burgholzer finished tied for second in the high jump at 1.54 meters and will advance to State.<\/p>\n

Kylie Pryor took fourth in the pole vault and just reached the qualifying standard of 2.97 meters with a vault of 2.97.<\/p>\n

Emery Spicer and Jessica Larsen will both head to State in the 800. Spicer finished fourth and Larsen fifth but both reached the State qualifying standard of 2:25.12.<\/p>\n

Spicer finished in 2:23.61 minutes and Larsen in 2:24.17.<\/p>\n

The winning time in the run was by Ashlyn Denney of Tolono Unity in 2:18.59.<\/p>\n

The 4×400 relay team of Baylee Summers, Macy Kirk, Spicer and Drew Weis finished fourth with a time of 4:13.34 minutes. They just came under the qualifying time of 4:13.85 to advance.<\/p>\n

The Effingham tracksters will head to the Class 2A State Tournament Friday, May 23 to compete in the semifinals. Those qualifying for the Finals will head back Saturday, May 24.<\/p>\n
