All classes are held at their office at 500 N. Maple St.\, Suite 200 in Effingham. \n• Free Comprehensive Diabetes Education Class – This free class helps provide a better understanding of managing all types of diabetes.  Topics include nutrition\, monitoring\, medications\, healthy coping and reducing risks.  Class participants receive individualized goals and a comprehensive diabetes management plan. DESCRIPTION:Print \nHSHS St. Anthony’s Physical Rehabilitation and Wellness will be hosting the third annual Walk to End Parkinson’s Disease!  This event is free to everyone in the community\, of any age\, to come out and support those with Parkinson’s Disease.  Plus there will be bounce houses and activities for children\, as well as a free luncheon for all who attend/register\, provided by HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. \nDonations are appreciated\, with proceeds supporting the local Parkinson’s Support Group and creating new and exciting opportunities for those in the community navigating Parkinson’s disease. \nOnline registration is now open and strongly encouraged.  Day-of registration will be available\, however to receive a t-shirt on the day of the event\, each participating adult family member must register by April 15.  No child-size shirts are available. \nSchedule: \n9:00 – 10:00 am\, Registration (Day-Of) and T-Shirt Pickup\n10:00 – 10:30 am\, Opening Ceremonies\n10:30 – 11:00 am\, WALK!\n11:00 am – Noon\, Free Luncheon \nHSHS St. Anthony’s Physical Therapist Jessica Mottashed shared why she and her colleagues wanted to host this event again.  She said\, “Our rehabilitation team is passionately dedicated to Parkinson’s care\, having pursued specialized training in this field. Leading our local Parkinson’s Support Group\, I’ve seen firsthand how funds raised at our past events positively impact community members facing daily challenges with the disease\,” she explained.  “This event beautifully unites our community in support of those with Parkinson’s and their families.” \nHSHS St. Anthony’s Physical Rehabilitation and Wellness has a specialized team that treats and supports patients with Parkinson’s disease.  Nine members of St. Anthony’s physical therapy\, occupational therapy and speech therapy team have completed specialized and individualized training for LSVT BIG and LSVT LOUD treatments that help people with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions address walking\, balance and other activities of daily living (LSVT BIG) and with their speech (LSVT LOUD). \nFor questions or more information about the event\, contact Jessica Mottashed at jessica.mottashed@hshs.org . \nRegister now at this link on:  eventbrite.com or visit stanthonyshospital.org and go to the Classes and Events page and select the “Walk to End Parkinson’s” event in the Effingham area for registration details.

SUMMARY:Teutopolis Monastery Museum Open
DESCRIPTION:PrintThe Teutopolis Monastery Museum celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.  There are 38 small rooms of displays open to visitors on Sunday\, May 4. \nThe hours are from 12:30 to 4:00 p.m.  We recommend you come early to see the many unique and interesting articles on display.  Admission for adults is $5.00 and $1.00 for children. \nThe Museum is located on the second floor in the former Franciscan Novitiate building\, which is located behind St. Francis Church in Teutopolis.  An elevator is available for visitors who have difficulty with stairs. \nBesides its collection of articles used by the Franciscan Friars\, the Museum is also known for Bibles and books in different languages\, some from the 1700’s.  The “pioneer wing” features items used by early Teutopolis pioneers\, including furniture\, clocks\, quilts\, toys\, and various household and grocery store items.  These articles are on display in the former “cells” or bedrooms of the Novices.   Volunteers are available along the tour to explain the displays and assist visitors. \nAlso open to visitors are the basement where many small farm tools are displayed\, the Mausoleum where 79 Franciscan Friars are interred\, and St. Francis Church\, with stained glass windows depicting events in the life of St. Francis of Assisi. \nSpecial group tours for adults or school groups can be arranged on days other than the scheduled Sunday openings.  Call 217-961-6404 ext. 236\, leave a message and the call will be returned.  Regular\, scheduled museum opening dates are the first Sunday of the months of April through November\, except holidays. \nFor more information go to the parish website:  stfrancischurch.com or to the town’s website at www.Teutopolis.com and click on “Our Community”.  Follow us on Facebook this year as we recall the beginnings of the Museum in 1975-76.
