DESCRIPTION:Print \nHoly Cross Church of Wendelin will hold their annual parish picnic on Sunday\, August 3rd\, from 10:00 A.M. – 10:00 P.M. \nLunch tickets will go on sale at 10:45 A.M. with one serving line in their air- conditioned hall.  Numbered ticket system for admittance into the hall to eat.  Adult tickets are $12.00 and children ages 6-12 are $6.00.  Children 5 and under eat for free.  Meals will be served from 11:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M.  Dinner ticket sales will end at 3:45p.m sharp.  The meal consists of chicken\, dressing\, mashed potatoes\, green beans\, slaw\, tomatoes\, and pie or cake for dessert.  \nThe Lunch stand will serve pork burgers\, hot dogs\, brats\, nachos and cheese\, chips\, and soda.  \nWe will again be hosting a pedal tractor pull this year starting at 2:30 P.M.  This will be for kids from ages 3-10\, and there will be a prize for each age group.  \nGames and stands for young and old consist of 50/50 Drawing\, Luck of the Draw\, Tic-Tac-Toe\, Mystery Box\, Inflatables\, Duck Pond\, Bingo\, Cake Stand\, Watermelons\, Plinko\, Football Toss\, Face Painting\, and a Beer Garden.  \nThe Take-A-Chance stand has several prizes for chances.  Many of those prizes consist of wood\, hand crafted\, and quilted items.  \nThe Country Store will have baked items\, crafts\, fresh produce\, and theme baskets of different varieties to take chances on.  \nOver 140 prizes on the big raffle are to be given away.  So come and join the fun\, food\, games\, and entertainment.  \nLive Bands will be performing throughout the day as follows:   11 A.M.-1:00 P.M.-Beppler & Caudle; 1:00-2:00 & 4:00-5:00-Rhonda Kuenstler; 2:00-4:00-Wes & Megan Hagan; Sojourn Rocs after raffle drawing until 9:30pm.

DESCRIPTION:PrintA newly-restored statue for World War I veteran\, Lawrence Durre\, who died in Brest\, France\, as the result of a poison gas attack on November 10\, 1918\, will be rededicated on Monday\, August 4\, at 10:00 a.m.  The statue is on the Effingham VFW grounds\, located at 2304 South Veterans Drive. \nThe statue was created in 1918\, but had fallen into disrepair for several years; however\, in a project led by the Effingham County Museum\, and involving individuals from local private businesses\, the school system\, and a number of private citizens joined in the effort to put the statue back in place at the VFW. \nThe public is invited to the brief rededication service. \nAttendees who have difficulty standing for more than ten minutes are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
