SUMMARY:Teutopolis Monastery Museum Final Opening of 2026
DESCRIPTION:PrintThere are 38 small rooms of displays open to visitors on Sunday\, November 1. \nThe hours are from 12:30 to 4:00 p.m. We recommend you come early to see the many unique and interesting articles on display. Admission for adults is $5.00 and $1.00 for children. \nThe Museum is located on the second floor in the former Franciscan Novitiate building\, which is located behind St. Francis Church in Teutopolis. An elevator is available for visitors who have difficulty with stairs. \nBesides its collection of articles used by the Franciscan Friars\, the Museum is also known for Bibles and books in different languages\, some from the 1700’s. The “pioneer wing” features items used by early Teutopolis pioneers\, including furniture\, clocks\, quilts\, toys\, and various household and grocery store items. These articles are on display in the former “cells” or bedrooms of the Novices. Volunteers are available along the tour to explain the displays and assist visitors. \nAlso open to visitors are the basement where many small farm tools are displayed\, the Mausoleum where 79 Franciscan Friars are interred\, and St. Francis Church\, with stained glass windows depicting events in the life of St. Francis of Assisi. \nSpecial group tours for adults or school groups can be arranged on days other than the scheduled Sunday openings. Call 217-961-6404 ext. 236\, leave a message and the call will be returned. We wish to help make their Christmas a little brighter. \n  \nREGISTRATION: \nApplications will be available November 1 through 22 at the FISH Service Center\, Catholic Charities\, Effingham Hi-Rise Office\, Burton Devore\, Slate Creek\, CEFS Outreach Office\, and Village Apartments. \n  \nDONATION INFORMATION: \nLast year\, 289 Effingham County Senior/Disabled Citizens received a grocery bag of non-perishable food\, a half ham or 4 frozen chicken breasts\, gift card for perishable food\, a hand-made Christmas stocking filled with Christmas gifts\, and a bag of personal and cleaning items. \nIt takes many donations to make these gifts possible.  If you\, your organization\, or business would host a food and/or small gift drive for these special Effingham Citizens\, please contact Karen at 217-821-0722. \n  \nNEEDED: \nIndividual serve meals\, small portion foods\, diabetic and gluten free food items.\nMonetary donations will help purchase the meat and the grocery gift cards.\nPlease contact Karen at 217-821-0722 to coordinate your collection. \n  \nVOLUNTEER NEEDS: \nMonday\, December 7 – Thursday\, December 10 at 9am \nFood sorting and bag packing at the FISH Service Center. \nFriday\, December 11 from 9am to noon \nDeliver Christmas bags\, food and gifts. \nFriday\, December 11 – 1pm to finish; \nSort and set-up used toys\, Christmas decorations\, coats \nSaturday\, December 12 – 8am-1:30pm \nFISH Warehouse open to distribute used toys\, Christmas décor\, coats.
