DESCRIPTION:PrintThe Effingham County Museum\, together with the Effingham Public Library\, are sponsoring a program about Abraham Lincoln. \nThe program will be held at the Effingham County Museum on Thursday\, April 16\, at 7:00 PM.  Doors will open at 6:30 PM and the program will be held on the second floor of the museum\, which is located at 110 East Jefferson Street in Effingham. \nThe speaker will be John Lupton and his program is about “Abraham Lincoln:  Lawyer/Politician”. \nJohn Lupton is the Executive Director of the Illinois Supreme Court Historic Preservation Commission.  Prior to the Supreme Court\, he worked 18 years with the Lincoln Legal Papers to make documents related to his law practice available to the public.  Lupton has written or edited numerous articles and books on Lincoln’s law practice and Illinois legal history.  Lupton is also a recognized Lincoln handwriting expert\, having appeared on the PBS program History Detectives and was an expert witness in a lawsuit over an allegedly forged Lincoln signature.

DESCRIPTION:PrintUnited Way of Effingham County has released the application to receive funding from the 2026 Campaign.  Agencies requesting funds must be non-profit organizations with a 501(c)(3) certificate and provide health and human services within Effingham County. \nAgencies who received funding from the 2025 Campaign will be automatically sent the application to reapply for funding.  Any other organization who wishes to apply should reach out to Emily Hille\, Executive Director for United Way of Effingham County at 217-342-3824 or email emily@effinghamunitedway.org.  Completed applications must be submitted by April 30\, 2026. \nIn addition to completing the application\, agencies will be asked to give a short presentation to the United Way Grants Committee demonstrating the purpose of their organization and how the requested funds would be used.  Presentation dates are June 1st and June 3rd from 5:30PM – 8:00PM. \nThe United Way of Effingham County has been working hard to identify the ever-changing needs and make a difference in the community for over 65 years.  To learn more\, visit www.effinghamunitedway.org.
