DESCRIPTION:On November 15\, 1875\, three Hospital Sisters of St. Francis arrived in Effingham to begin providing health care in this community.  Now 150 years later\, that same compassionate health care mission continues today at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. \nHSHS St. Anthony’s is celebrating their history through various activities throughout the year\, one of which will be a special Mass with the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis on Wednesday\, April 30 at 11:30 a.m. in the hospital Chapel.  The Mass will be celebrated by The Most Reverend Thomas John Paprocki\, Bishop of the Diocese of Springfield\, Illinois and concelebrated by local clergy. \n“The first Hospital Sisters of St. Francis that came to America had a difficult road to get here and challenges to face when they arrived\, but they were deeply committed to serving as we are today\,” said Anthony Powers\, St. Anthony’s Chief Administrative Officer. “This Mass honors their service and dedication to establish a health care ministry that’s now reaching across Illinois and Wisconsin. We are so grateful and proud that they entrust their mission in our hands.” \nMosaic Artwork Unveiling \nAfter Mass\, there will be a brief unveiling and blessing of the final panel of a mosaic artistic piece by Dr. Ruben Boyajian\, artist\, general surgeon with HSHS Medical Group\, and Medical Director of St. Anthony’s Women’s Wellness and Cancer Care Services.  The three-panel artwork hangs in the hospital’s Heritage hallway that overlooks the Healing Garden. \nThe first two panels were unveiled in 2018 and 2023\, respectively\, and were inspired by the “Canticle of the Sun” the well-known prayer written by St. Francis of Assisi\, the patron saint of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis.  The third and final panel concludes the artwork focusing on the St. Anthony’s Hospital 1949 fire\, honoring the memory of the victims by incorporating their names in the artwork\, and commemorates the recovery efforts and support following the fire which led to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital of today.  Video of the panel unveiling will be available on St. Anthony’s social media channels after the event. \nFor more information about HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital\, visit  stanthonyshospital.org.

SUMMARY:Eucharistic Miracles Exhibition at St. Anthony Parish Center
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the upcoming canonization of Carlo Acutis\, his work on the Eucharistic Miracles will be on display at the St. Anthony Parish Center in Effingham. \nThe exhibition can be viewed from Tuesday – Friday\, April 22-25 from 9:00 – 4:00\, as well as on Sunday\, April 27 from 8:30 – 12:30. \nIn many places throughout history\, Our Lord has carried out Miracles of the Holy Eucharist\, in which His Precious Body and Blood have become visible to doubting human eyes\, no longer under the appearances of bread and wine\, but under the appearances of flesh and blood! \nThe research on these documented miracles was done by Carlo Acutis\, a young boy who died at the age of 15\, in 2005.  He wanted to foster a renewed faith and deep love for the Holy Eucharist. \nTo view the miracles online\, go to miracolieucaristici.org

DESCRIPTION:CEFS Recognizes National Volunteer Week April 20-26 \nCEFS Economic Opportunity Corporation would like to recognize and thank all the CEFS\nvolunteers that have contributed to CEFS’ mission of providing opportunities in our communities\nthrough education and support to achieve and maintain stability. In 2024\, CEFS served over\n19\,000 individuals with the help of over 2\,300 volunteers that provided over 165\,000 hours of\nservice. Because of our volunteers\, what seemed to be impossible became possible. Thank you\nto all our volunteers for their dedication and support to CEFS and those in need. \nCEFS is a not-for-profit Community Action Agency that serves the counties of Christian\, Clay\,\nEffingham\, Fayette\, Shelby\, Montgomery\, and Moultrie. CEFS needs volunteers for its Retired\nSenior Volunteer Program\, Meals on Wheels Program\, Adult Literacy Program\, Food Pantries\, and\nHead Start Program. \nNational Volunteer Week is a great opportunity to shine a light on the many ways people can serve\nand strengthen their communities.
