SUMMARY:Vintage Base Ball at Lincoln Log Cabin
DESCRIPTION:Vintage base ball returns to the Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site on Saturday\, May 24\, from Noon – 4:00 p.m.! \nVisitors are invited to step back in time and join in a game of 19th-century ball.  The rules to the early version are similar to the modern rules and will be explained before each game. \nThe event is free and open to the public.  No RSVP is required.  All are welcome to play or just watch! \nWherever and whenever Americans have gathered for community events\, there was always a ball game.  After the Civil War\, the game of choice was most often town ball.  Town ball later became base ball\, and finally today’s version with modern rules (and spelled as one word\, baseball). \nThe Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site is located at 402 S. Lincoln Highway Road\, Lerna\, IL  62440. \nFor more information\, call 217-345-1845\, or visit lincolnlogcabin.org

SUMMARY:My Reason to Run 1-Mile\, 5k\, 10k Run - For Stroke Rehabilitation
DESCRIPTION:The second annual My Reason to Run Fundraiser is back to help fund a crucial part of Britney Walter-Chester’s recovery.  The race starts at 8:30 am on Saturday\, May 24 at St. Anthony High School. \nIn 2022\, Britney survived leukemia\, but suffered a stroke that left her with a paralyzed arm and basically no use of her hand.   She’s been working hard to regain function with the help of a specialized medical device\, but insurance delays and an unexpected increase in the cost have made it difficult to access. \nThis race is a way of raising the funds needed to move forward.  If insurance ends up covering part of the cost\, then extra funds will be donated to someone else in need. \nTo register\, scan the QR code below or go to raceroster.com

SUMMARY:Lincoln Onscreen History Presentation
DESCRIPTION:Considering President Lincoln is widely recognized as the most written-about person in American history\, it should come as no surprise that he’s the most frequently portrayed American historical figure in the history of movies and television.  Lincoln has appeared onscreen as a character in more than 250 productions since the birth of motion pictures. \nYou’re invited to join Mark S. Reinhart\, the author of Abraham Lincoln on Screen\, for a cinematic journey covering the history of Lincoln-related screen works from the silent film era right up through present day\, including Steven Spielberg’s award-winning 2012 film Lincoln.  Reinhart will reveal what filmmakers got right and where they failed with historical accuracy\, and he’ll take a critical look at the artistic merits of the more important film works. \nPlus\, Reinhart will share video clips throughout the presentation\, including scenes from ultra-rare works such as the 1924 silent feature The Dramatic Life of Abraham Lincoln\, and the stunning 1956 CBS Television production The Day Lincoln was Shot starring Raymond Massey. \nThis special program will happen on Tuesday\, May 20\, in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library’s Union Theater in Springfield. \nDoors will open at 6:00 p.m.  The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. \nMr. Reinhart will have signed copies of Abraham Lincoln on Screen available for purchase after the program. \nAdmission is free\, but advance registration is required by clicking HERE.
