SUMMARY:Free At-Home Colon Cancer Screening Tests
DESCRIPTION:PrintNo Prep\, No Procedure\, No Excuses:  HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital Offering Free\, At-Home Colon Cancer Screening Tests in March \nColon cancer screening just got easier. \nDuring Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month in March\, HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital is giving away at-home screening tests while highlighting that colorectal cancer is the second-most common cause of cancer deaths in the United States when cases for men and women are combined\, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). \nIndividuals aged 45 or older\, or those with an immediate family member diagnosed with colon cancer\, are eligible for a free InSure ONE at-home screening test with instructions\, from March 1 through March 31. \nTests can be picked up from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital\, 503 N. Maple St.\, in the presurgical testing department\, while supplies last.  For easy access\, please enter through the presurgical testing entrance on the hospital’s north side.  Samples must be returned to the department by April 1.  Please note this screening test is not a substitute for a colonoscopy. \nThis simple\, easy test saves lives.  Early detection is key to successful treatment of colorectal cancer\, with nearly 90% of patients diagnosed at an early stage experiencing a five-year survival rate\, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Although overall death rates have fallen during the past decade due to increased screening and improved treatments\, the same does not hold true for younger adults.  For people under 55\, death rates have been increasing about 1% per year since the mid-2000s\, according to the ACS. \nFor more information regarding this colorectal cancer screening event\, call 217-347-1858.  For more information about HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital\, visit stanthonyshospital.org.

SUMMARY:Free Problem Gambling Screenings
DESCRIPTION:PrintMarch is Problem Gambling Awareness Month \nHour House\, in partnership with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG)\, recognizes March as Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM).  This year’s theme\, “Caring Communities\, Stronger Futures” emphasizes the importance of a community-driven approach to problem gambling awareness and support.  The annual campaign aims to increase public awareness of problem gambling and the availability of prevention\, treatment\, and recovery services\, as well as encourage healthcare providers to screen for problem gambling and connect individuals to appropriate support. \nProblem gambling\, defined as gambling behaviors that disrupt or damage personal\, family\, or professional lives\, affects millions of Americans.  In the U.S. 2.5 million adults (1%) are estimated to meet the criteria for a severe gambling problem in a given year. Another 5–8 million (2–3%) are considered to have mild or moderate gambling problems.  Additionally\, in the past year\, approximately 20 million American adults reported experiencing at least one indicator of problematic gambling behavior. \n“Our community isn’t defined by its challenges; it is defined by how we respond. When we come\ntogether with compassion\, understanding\, and proactive solutions\, we can effectively address\ngambling-related harm and help shape stronger futures.” — Amy Bullington\, Gambling Coordinator \n  \nA Community-Driven Approach to Awareness and Support \nThroughout March\, Hour House will lead efforts focused on increasing public understanding of problem gambling and ensuring individuals are aware of the available prevention\, education\, treatment\, and recovery services in their community.  Activities will include: \n● March 10\, National Gambling Disorder Screening Day – FREE gambling screenings available 9am-3pm by calling 217-258-6018 or by visiting 513 North 13th Street in Mattoon\n● Gambling awareness social media campaigns \nThese efforts reflect a simple truth: when community comes together — friends\, families\, educators\, healthcare providers\, local partners\, and policymakers — silence is replaced with support\, and isolation is replaced with connection.  To learn more about problem gambling\, please visit NCPGambling.org/FAQs \nHour House encourages local media\, partners\, and residents to join the effort by sharing resources\, uplifting stories of those in recovery\, and helping connect people to available support. \nIf you or someone you know is struggling with a gambling problem\, the National Problem Gambling Helpline TM offers free\, confidential support 24/7: \nCall 1-800-MY-RESET\nText 800GAM\nChat at www.NCPGambling.org/chat
