Roberta Meyer, librarian at St. Anthony Schools, recently attended the Illinois Reading Council Convention held in Springfield. While there, Meyer attended sessions given by Nick Bruel, author of the Bad Kitty books, Judith Byron Schachner, author of the Skippyjon Jones books, Joan Bauer, author of Hope Was Here and Stand Tall. She also attended a luncheon featuring speaker Andrew Clements, author of Frindle and other school stories for children. St. Anthony Schools participate in the statewide Abraham Lincoln High School Book Award program, and the Rebecca Caudill (grades 4-8) and Monarch (grades K-3) awards programs. Meyer attended a session introducing the new Bluestem Award Program for grades 3-5 while at the Conference, as well. In addition, she won a set of ten books for St. Anthony High School. Meyer comments, “This Conference is one of the best for librarians and reading teachers to attend. Participants receive first-hand insight into the books they are using with their students, as well as affirmation that the job they are doing is truly important.” |
