St. Elmo school board members this week approved an agreement established by a sports cooperative committee made up of members of the St. Elmo and Brownstown school districts that, if also approved by the Brownstown school board, would mean that the two districts would co-op in all sports beginning with the new school year. The districts have co-opd in some sports for several years, and declining student participation led to the push to co-op in all sports. The agreement does require a similar approval by the Brownstown board by month's end. There are indications that some at Brownstown are not ready to take the co-op plunge. That's why the St. Elmo board wants a decision soon. If the proposal is rejected by the Brownstown board, St. Elmo needs to finalize its sports schedule for next year. Also this week, the St. Elmo board adopted next year's school calendar beginning with a Teacher Workshop on August 18; set high school graduation for Saturday, May 22 at 7pm and 8th grade recognition night for 6pm on Friday, May 4; and took action on several personnel items. The Board offered employment for next year to Cathy Loy, Brandy Maroon, Michelle Metzger, Jonathan Bunch, Jerry Smith, Megan Burrus, Alisha Hoffman, Tatum Hawkins and Amy Schimmelpfenning. A resolution of non-reemployment was approved for first year non-tenured teacher Jonathan Harwood and fourth year non-tenured teacher Jill Feldhake. Resolutions of non-reemployment of full time aides Meghan Gillespie and Lucas Watson and parttime aide LaTosha Schroeder were approved and Lucas Watson was offered employment as halftime teacher aide for next year. The Board also accepted a letter of resignation from Mary Mattix as high school Scholar Bowl coach and Honors Banquet sponsor once a suitable replacement is located. |
